We live in a moment when Jewish life in America feels more vulnerable than it has in decades. The threats are real, and we cannot outsource all responsibility for our safety. With that in mind, I want to offer a modest proposal:
First, we should drop the sneering rhetoric about guns. Too often, Jewish discourse is laced with derision for those who own guns or advocate for them. A little empathy, even if we disagree, is a Jewish value too.
Second, Jews should learn to shoot. Every Jew should go to the gun range at least once. You may never own a firearm, let alone carry one—but you should at least know what it feels like to handle one safely, to understand its power as well as its risks.
Third, Jewish organizations should consider providing training. On a voluntary basis, synagogues, schools, and Jewish nonprofits should give their staff and boards the opportunity to experience basic firearms safety at a gun range.
Fourth, we should be honest about the politics of gun control. For decades, many mainstream Jewish organizations have poured energy into advocating for gun control measures that have no realistic chance of passing.
Finally, circumstances should guide personal decisions. Whether to carry a firearm is not a question with a one-size-fits-all answer. Each of us must weigh our own risks, responsibilities, and comfort level. As for me, I’d like more training. Whether I’ll actually acquire a firearm, I haven’t decided. For now, the only thing I’m certain of is that pretending the question doesn’t matter is no longer an option.

Shoshana loves Guns.
JPFO is a Way to Go!
the author of the article needs to decide to aquire firearms and at least take a couple of good training classes WITHOUT DELAY!
he can deal with his ambivilance later
Loosen gun restrictions in Israel if you can. Not a gun persons haven. Most self loathing Jews would board the trains before getting a “gun”. Sad.
Nice!
The first thing Jews need to do is stop voting for Democrats and stop sending them money. Voting for Democrats is insane. It makes about as much sense as supporting Jews for Hitler.
I’ve got Jewish ancestry. Great Grandfather.
Catholic church birth records document it.
I’m a Christian, by baptism and education.
I do not understand why Modern Jews are so
stupid.
I’m a little educated but,
if 6 million Jews in Europe had just kept their
guns and fought back. That Jewish death camp
slaughter would not have occurred!
To die in a gun fight is better than
dying in a death camp.
If you can kill or wound a portion
of a army of attackers. That army will
stop.
Most armies don’t have 6 million people
willing to die or get hurt really bad.
Arm up! Buy enough ammo to fight for weeks!
That’s why we have freedom in America.
That’s why countries are afraid to invade us.
Full armor, IDF soldier. WHy can't these anti gun Jews understand? She would tell them.
The Jews who are addressed in this article are what I call "Vichy Jews." They are largely traitors to their own community, sell outs to the enemy in times of war and antisemitism, just like in France during WWII, where Jews reported their Jewish neighbors to be sent to the concentration camps in hopes of saving themselves, instead of fighting.
They will always be so, and they die by the thousands for their perfidy.
SHAME!
This is what pretty much what any sensible person who understands the second amendment, and understands the responsible ownership and usage of guns has been saying for years.
I can simplify it even more get a clue clue, learn how to fight or pick out the outfit you want to buried in & your casket.
Considering the Holocaust and antisemitism on the rise, one would think each Jew would want to be armed to the teeth.
But no, there is a substantial portion that appear to be anti-Jew themselves, despise guns and perpetually vote democrat.
And the Holocaust, I just can’t wrap my head around millions of people willingly being rounded up, put in cattle cars and just waltzing off to the showers to get gassed. Granted, the Warsaw Ghetto and a few other examples are exceptions, but the masses simply complied with the Nazi death orders.
I guess the same applies to those murdered by Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot.
I understand it’s pretty easy for IDF and Jewish residents of Judea/Samaria to get firearms.
The problem in Israel is the Arab population would also become armed.
Jews should remember their own history in the Bible.
1 Samuel 13:19-22
19 Now there was no smith found throughout all the land of Israel: for the Philistines said, Lest the Hebrews make them swords or spears:
20 But all the Israelites went down to the Philistines, to sharpen every man his share, and his coulter, and his axe, and his mattock.
21 Yet they had a file for the mattocks, and for the coulters, and for the forks, and for the axes, and to sharpen the goads.
22 So it came to pass in the day of battle, that there was neither sword nor spear found in the hand of any of the people that were with Saul and Jonathan: but with Saul and with Jonathan his son was there found.
“Second, Jews should learn to shoot. Every Jew should go to the gun range at least once. You may never own a firearm, let alone carry one—but you should at least know what it feels like to handle one safely, to understand its power as well as its risks.”
As a teenager, I learned how to shoot when I lived in Israel. Members of the kibbutz I lived on, took a bunch of us out to the hills to learn to shoot. I fired an AK47, an M16 and an Uzi. For some reason, they didn’t allow us to shoot the Galil. Never could figure that out.
𝘍𝘰𝘳 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘰𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘺 𝘥𝘪𝘥𝘯’𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸 𝘶𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘭. 𝘕𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘧𝘪𝘨𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘵.
The Galil is an enhanced AK-47 that has a longer sight radius, and shoots 5.56 NATO. So you probably didn’t miss much, still a rifle I’d also like to give a try. The manual of arms for an older Galil (AR, ARM, SAR) is pretty much the same as that of an AK. I believe the newer generations of the rifle had a different safety. South Africa and Finland did something similar when the created the Vekor R4 and Valmet rifles respectively.
Rumor also has it that years ago Israel destroyed the tooling for the original rifles, which is kind of a bummer.
Israeli teachers.
And not one dead child in the picture.
I am 84 years old. Ever since I learned of the EVIL hate and hostility that has been directed at Jews over the past 6,000 years, I have wondered why EVERY Jew does not support and practice self-defense for him/her self and family?
Were I a Jew, I’d be a HUGE supporter of JFPO – I am NOT a Jew, but I AM along-time supporter.
Here is the Bottom Line: JEW ON NOT, NEVER, EVER! LEAVE HOME UNARMED!
I’m a gentile but I’m a member of JPFO… they’re much less wishy-washy than the NRA!
