Meet Russia’s PAK DA: The Flying Fantasy Stealth Bomber
National Security Journal ^ | 8/14/2025 | Andrew Latham

Russia’s PAK DA sixth-generation strategic bomber is more of a “flying fantasy” than a credible future threat. Despite its legendary status and ambitious on-paper specifications, the program is crippled by Russia’s weak industrial base, which has consistently failed to deliver on far less complex projects like the Su-57 fighter.

I’m sure impressed.

One thing that’s obvious: what we did to Iran got Putin’s attention.

To more knowledgeable people here.

Are those wings that are not part of the blended fuselage meant to show they will move backward in flight?

And are those designs looking like a blueprint a modern version of the early naval vessel camouflage with obviously visible designs?
Tiny versions of these:

Ah, yes. Another example of Russian Potemkinism. Russia also built (copied) the USA Space Shuttle. I do not remember the Russian Shuttle helping with.....anything.

I think Israel used the Russian air defense systems for target practice before we went in and drilled their uranium enrichment facilities with coaxial bunker buster strikes.

True that. Were those Russia's best defense systems, or did Russia sell Iran some old tech? When I view battles as our tech vs Russia's tech, always in the back of my mind is the question of, "Yeah. But was it our best tech vs Russia's best tech, or was it the benchwarmer tech vs benchwarmer tech?". I'm hoping it was our tech vs Russia's best air defense system.

The US will still outsmart the Russkies.

“In Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Uhura famously says,
“The thing’s gotta have a tailpipe,”
after Spock explains that a cloaked Klingon vessel expends plasma (ionized gas) when under impulse power. This line, spoken in response to a discussion about detecting gaseous anomalies, is a humorous and insightful way of suggesting they can track the Klingon ship by following its exhaust.”

It flew once, unmanned under remote control. It is now accumulating bird poop in a hangar.

...Iran has not requested Russia’s S-400 air defense system, an IRGC official said Sunday, emphasizing the superior capabilities of Tehran’s domestically developed air defense systems.

“Our current systems offer far superior capabilities compared to the S-400,” said Davood Sheikhian, deputy for operations of the IRGC Aerospace Force, in a video interview shared by state-controlled media.

He added that Iran is also actively using the Russian-made S-300 system and sees no need for the S-400...

IRAN hasn’t stopped their threatening to Israel or the U.S.. Maybe we should resume bombing and training Iranian rebel army to complete the defeat and establishment of freedom from the tyrants? They have stepped up their executions of their citizens.

The lowest RUSSIAN bidder at that.
I survived the nightmare flooding of tech companies by liberated Russians in the early 90s.
“In old country I am engineer”. Well that must have been on trains, because in manufacturing it explains why you’re here and the old country isn’t anywhere anymore.
Second shift was worse - all women, all dropped off by hairy chested trogs driving new Mercedes.
From what I understand my tax dollars were paying for all of this - including their salaries.

When I first saw that picture, my first thought was the movie "Flyboys", when they encounter the Zeppelin and the music goes to Tuba. That was genius on Trevor Rabin's part.

Sorry, a little off topic, but some thread drift is fun.
