The New York Times is still force-feeding its readers agitprop that the long-awaited inflation Armageddon it's been hawking for months is still nigh. That’s despite a bevy of welcome economic news in recent weeks that has defied the retrospectively stupid predictions of President Donald Trump’s most pompous critics still high on their bloated egos.
“Where’s the Inflation From Tariffs? Just Wait, Economists Say,” doom-mongered Times reporter Colby Smith in a June 13 crystal ball item passed off as news. They always locate "Economists" to say what they want to impose as conventional "wisdom."
“Tariffs raise consumer prices. It’s a view held by most economists since long before President Trump entered the White House,” Smith wrote. She expressed her shock that Trump’s tariffs on China “did not translate to” the “noticeably higher inflation overall” that forecasters were screeching about for months.
Referring to data showing that inflation has been rather muted in recent months, Smith was compelled to address the burning question, “Are their predictions wrong?” But rather than admitting the obvious — which is “YES” in capital letters — Smith parroted the stubbornness of disgruntled economists assuring everybody that prices will inevitably increase later this summer … eventually.

What does Krugman guarantee will happen?
Everyday I see new articles at financial news-sites predicting economic doom. Inflation is going to increase rapidly any day now. They will not mention food or gas though.
The examples they give are of a $10 increase in the price of a refrigerator at Home Depot or a baby bed at Costco. Consumers aren’t noticing those increases. They are noticing the decrease in the price of eggs or potatoes at Walmart.
Yes the NYT heeds Stalin’s advice if you tell them something long enough they will believe it.

An MSNBC panel said last week: “The interim statistics do not reflect the serious harm affecting the American economy and consumers from Trump’s tariff damage yet. But it is on the way.”
I heard them say that a month earlier.
Someone needs to write a report of how many times the NYT has been wrong on economic predictions related to Republican and Democrat policies. But they can simply ignore being wrong and then make dire predictions again and again.
Probably best to note that predictions of sharply higher inflation came when the amounts of tariff were declared.
But not when Trump then shut the tariffs off.
Point being, we haven’t seen the effect of tariffs because nearly none are in place.
There has been talk of $100+B increases in tariff revenue, but this is nothing like what prompted all those predictions. $100B is nearly 0% of GDP.
As for “the end of the world”. It would be good to have an actual definition. Here’s mine:
Every human being dies. That’s the end of the world.
90% deaths? Not the end of the world. 20% deaths? Not the end of the world.

Indeed
Illegals are self deporting. The jobs available from that are being filled by Americans who are being paid a higher wage. That will be inflation I will welcome. With all the product selection available it is easy to make choices. If a product is too expensive it will not be purchased.
