A McDonald’s restaurant in the progressive Washington, D.C. suburb of Fairfax County, Virginia has banned under 21-year-olds from indoor dining after “repeated incidents of student violence.” Adults must ring a doorbell to be let in by staff.
The McDonald’s is located just outside the Beltway in the Franconia neighborhood between Alexandria and Springfield. It has been a popular hangout for students of several nearby schools, including Thomas A. Edison High School.
A sign posted at the door says, “RING THE DOORBELL SAFETY NOTICE: Effective immediately. Due to repeated incidents of student violence, this McDonald’s location is temporarily closed for dine-in service to anyone under 21 years of age. The decision was made to protect our staff, our guests, and our community. Adults — we are still here to serve you! Please ring the doorbell, and a member of our team will assist you. We thank you for understanding as we work to keep our restaurant a safe and welcoming place for all. Management.”
Under 21s can still use the drive-thru and pick up meals ordered on the app.

Prove they are adult by questions like the WWII movies where GIs asked the German spies “who is Mickey Mouse in love with?”
Ask “What is 12 plus 5?”
Young person would say “2” because one person is often allowed a “plus one” so that would equal two.
And “Which was first and second, The American Civil War and World War II?” Under 40% answer correctly.
And the Johnny “person on the street” feature on Jesse Watters asked who the Colonists were fighting in the Revolutionary War. Most said Japan, China, Russia and Spain. Two said the British.
Yep, it started going downhill when the Metro expanded out from DC to the ‘burbs. I had moved away from Fairfax County by then, but saw the changes when I’d go up for visits.

I grew up in that exact area in the 70’s. My Dad was stationed at Ft Belvoir. I graduated TC Williams Titans. The school board decided to start bussing and forcing kids out of their district to another. It was a mess then. Schools were war zones.
Students? What are they studying to be? Brain surgeons? Rocket scientists? Engineers?
It’s blacks and Hispanics. This is not the first time that McD’s has been closed to Edison “students” during lunch. I used to work near there and eat there occasionally. It would be like a zoo inside. I’d sometimes have to go to the other one down the street in Rose Hill instead if it was too crowded.

“By the time the left gets done you’ll have to show your ID to buy fries at McDonald’s.” Nobody would have believed it.

The hour or two after school lets out comprise a well known trouble point. A middle school closed here a few years back, all the businesses in the surrounding area reported immediate drops in shoplifting, unruly behavior, and fights.
More serious crime — the drug dealing with all its attendant violence, armed robbery and mugging of adults — has a different profile. The perps tend to be older, often are traveling by car, and it occurs later in the evening. The hotspots tend to be associated with public housing projects, although it can be tucked away anywhere in ungentrified areas.
Public schools and public housing projects. Add in concentrations of Sec. 8 housing and you,’ve got the trifecta.
Desegregation was a recipe for disaster when it was implemented back in the day. We’re experiencing the horrible effects as time goes by.
Why does everything have to get worse? Screw it we’ll make our own hamburgers.
The problem was not desegregation. The problem was Great Society liberalism, which led to the open ended subsidization of single moms with dependent children. Marriage has collapsed among the lower income demographic across the white and Hispanic communities as well.
In 1960, the national rate of illegitimacy was about 6 percent, with the black rate just a fraction of a percent higher. Today it’s over 70 percent among blacks, over 50 percent among Hispanics and over 25 percent among whites. All other social problems follow from that.
The Great Society turned out to be a nuclear bomb detonated in the heart of the black community, which was lower income but in which families were still intact, the work ethic was strong, and the schools still strove to educate, tracking many to the trades but identifying and cultivating the stronger students on other tracks as well. Things were far from perfect but we were making progress. Then came the great LBJ reset. The Great Society produced systematic policy failure in one domain after another, but the liberals were drunk on theory. They doubled and tripled down, and they are still at it, attempting to mask failure with a culture of lies enforced by bullying and intimidation.
