President Trump V2.0: No more Mr. Nice Guy.
The 51st state, right on Mr. Prez!
We can have discussions with Denmark and with Greenland.
But, should discussions not prove productive, I will go ahead and get this out there ahead of time:
I will not support an invasion of Greenland. The whole idea is bizarre, crazy, and morally wrong.
How about a treaty with Denmark allowing us greater access? I would be happy to vote for ratification.
“the US would carry out more investment in more icebreakers”
The current ice-breaking fleet is woefully short of ships.
Honestly, this is the strangest thing I think I’ve ever seen in the news. It reminds me as if I live in the time we bought the Louisiana Purchase.
I feel like I need one of those hats ol’ Ben Frankliln wore when he went to France.
Can’t bribe ‘em with some beer or something?
Please get us, US, taken care of first. Greenland people do not want us.
I don’t understand this at all...but I have been reading some scary stuff about polar shifts..maybe Greenland is projected to survive.
Stop kissing Xi's ass. Musk and the rest of the tech bros have a huge footprint in communist china, perhaps ending trade with them is the proper order instead of seizing another part of a country.
Good strategy. We will end up having total control of the waters around Greenland. Hopefully.
MANIFEST DESTINY
It’s not ours and I didn’t vote for this.
Expect bad things.
We don’t need Greenland.
The whole idea is so idiotic that it can only be psy-ops for foreign media consumption.
I agree in principle with everything President Trump says. What I genuinely don’t get is the approach.
USA could’ve pitched this as, the American base isn’t big enough to protect Greenland from Russia / China, but the USA could invest massively in Greenland to the mutual benefit of Greenland, Denmark AND the USA.
Could’ve pitched it as, “everyone’s a winner.”
Instead we have this bullshit where, from the Greenlanders perspective, Trump is proposing they become just another first nation reservation on their own land after ceding it to the USA in return for bugger all... while the new Yank owners get rich.
And from the Danes’ perspective, there’s literally no incentive to say yes.
Trump might be the best hardball negotiator in the world at real estate deals, where competition is fierce and winning needs a battle... but playing hardball in a bloodless negotiation with people who’d be perfectly happy to do a deal if they thought they were getting something better than a pig in a poke seems a bit counterproductive, to put it very mildly.
It’s like - imagine your vacuum cleaner is on its way out, you’re thinking of getting a Kirby, and a Kirby sales dude turns up at an inconvenient time. If he simply offered to do the demo another time and gave you his card, he’d probably have a guaranteed sale.
If the guy pushes his way into your house, uses pressure selling tactics , insults your wife because you refuse to be rushed, kicks your dog, and then threatens to keep coming back until you sign, it’ll get your back up.
Unforced error by the Trump administration. Europe doesn’t see hard sell as a virtue; they think pressure selling is the last resort of a crap salesman.
I don’t think Greenland is needed for anything beyond what we already have there. This and the Canadian crap are the only two things I think Trump needs to abandon.
Greenland take over by (pick your preference)
1. USA. USA take over by direct purchase; making it a protectorate/commonwealth or; using brute force as last resort.
2. Russia. Russia take over by brute force.
3. China. China take over by trickery, cash loans, bribes, using brute force as last resort.
4. Remain Danish. Number 4’s chance of retaining it is like an ice cube on a sunny summer day.
