The Democrats running NY are okay with it happening.
And, counterintuitively, the Jewish communities in NY tend to vote overwhelmingly for Democrats.
It’s rare for any of the communities to break from that and vote otherwise.
This past election had such things happen here and there.
Albany saw that, they likely are upset about it and want punishment for breaking from the fold.
And Democrats love collective punishments against a whole group.
