Democratic strategist James Carville condemned his party on Thursday for pursuing agendas that he argued are disconnected from the concerns of everyday Americans.
During the “outrage of the week” segment on his “Politics War Room” podcast, Carville expressed frustration with New York Democrats pushing for pet bereavement leave and with the Democratic National Committee’s (DNC) gender rules discussed at its Saturday Winter Meeting.
“For my outrage, these are … two things that Democrats have done that are so unmoored to what anyone in the country thinks or feels like. It’s almost impossible. The first one is some Democrats and progressives in New York are advocating for bereavement pet leave,” Carville said. “Okay, so in other words, if your cat dies, you get three days of paid leave. Does anyone even know, like in rural America, like where I grew up, how many dead animals?”
“In the entire history of the United States, let me tell you something — a sentence that has never, ever, ever been uttered: ‘Well, Martha, Fido died, so I can’t bale a hay today.’ I mean, come on,” he continued. “I mean, please, just think of how — and fortunately, no one’s going to overly publicize this, although the right’s using it in some places — just how clueless you sound to people who are agrarian. It’s like, you know, you’re living on a different thing. Life and death on a farm is something that happens every six hours. I mean, my God.”
Democratic New York City council members sponsored a bill in October to enable New Yorkers to utilize their sick time to take care of their pets.
During the DNC meeting on Saturday, outgoing DNC chair Jaime Harrison appeared confused by his own party’s policies on gender inclusivity, struggling to explain that “in order to be gender-balanced” the party must elect “one male, one female, and one person of any gender,” for the party’s vice chair position.
Carville read from an article in The Atlantic about the situation, which reads, “Speaking to the Democratic National Committee, which met to select its new leadership this weekend, the outgoing chair, Jaime Harrison, attempted to explain a point about its rules concerning gender balance for its vice-chair race. ‘The rules specify that when we have a gender-nonbinary candidate or officer, the nonbinary individual is counted as neither male nor female, and the remaining six officers must be gender balanced.'”
“Did I just read this? Of course I did. And do you believe this? Of course you do. Because that’s the level of jackassery that — now, does any Democratic candidate? No. I don’t even know if [newly elected DNC Chair] Ken Martin himself actually [believes it]. But they do it,” Carville said. “And it’s like there’s a plant somewhere in ‘progressive’ America that just sees how many jackass stupid things that they can embrace. It’s stunningly stupid. Both of them.”
You mean... they haven’t yet?
Bereavement Leave is primarily intended for attending or arranging funerals and dealing with all the complications associated with death. It’s never easy or cheap. I have had to deal with it twice in the past 3 years. Sure ... I could have taken vacation time, but I’m glad my employer has a reasonable BL policy.
For people.
Pets? Sorry ... it’s entirely different.
‘The rules specify that when we have a gender-nonbinary candidate or officer, the nonbinary individual is counted as neither male nor female, and the remaining six officers must be gender balanced.’”
This MUST be condensed into an ad for whatever races are next
!! :)
As for pet days...if my lil buddy, my cat Spaghetti..not if but when he dies, I’ll take a personal day if I’m in the dumps.
Little fat cat is 16 and still acts like a kitten.
He napped on me for the 5 years I was home recovering from a pretty dam bad head injury.
I know he’s not human :) I know he’d forget my face in two weeks :)
It’s what he means to me that matters.
But it’s MY VACATION DDAY...giving people days off is crazy!!
BTW, I don’t have kids for personal reasons and I finally moved on from the depression over it in my 40s.
But this is just another way to get across the point that kids aren’t necessary.
Trust me, I make the best of life and my nephews/nieces and grand ones, but kids are Everything.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you differently.
Let them keep going on this stuff. It’s like buggy whip makers continuing to manufactureg thousands of buggy whips a year and deluding themlselves into thinking that even though more and more cars are being bought that everyone REALLY loves buggy whips so we’ll just keep making them.
the only way the Democrats turn this around is if they lose in midterms biggly, at which point sanity will return.
Carville gets it. He always has.
James is one okra short of a satisfying gumbo.
Now if your work product sucks, then you will only be accommodated with official policy, which in and of itself is a flag to go find a job somewhere else.
i watched the dnc meeting
my takeaway was the smart people did not want the job
I’d love to have a beer with him! He’ll always be a leftie, but he’s good at it, likeBill Clinton was. Not like the current loons running his party.
he won elections
but he is not woke enough for the current bunch of wokesters
Good point—sorta the Gresham’s Law of politics.
If you reach a critical mass of loonies the sane people just run away....
Heh, I think he would be a lot of fun to have a beer with, especially after he gets a few into himself!
The Demon-rat Party is the party of single cat ladies. To them, their cat is their family.
The DNC is too woke for Carville?
Hooda thunkit?
i think they are past the progressives
i think the collectivists(socialists/communists) have taken control
and because of their no dissent policy
any one who speaks out gets dogpiled
Progressives are communists
an amendment to the bill
make Peanut Day a state holiday
And, for those of you who woke up allergic to nuts, we shall hastily make the next Pee Nut Day a national Dash for the Rash Cash Day!
