Politico reports that the Harris Campaign has deleted the reference to Walz being a retired "Command Sergeant Major" from his campaign website bio.

THAT IS A CONCESSION the criticism is correct, and that it has done damage.

And that they did not know of this problem when he was named.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here.

Vance was in a non-combat role as a public affairs officer in the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing that was deployed to Iraq. That doesn't mean he was hiding behind a desk securely inside the base. It means he embedded with units on patrols to write their stories.

He spent his service working in public affairs, writing about Marines and taking photographs of their work, escorting civilian news reporters and speaking about happenings on base.

In Iraq, he embedded with different units to get a sense of their daily routines and wrote a story about a crew keeping KC-130J tankers in the air. He also waded into unprotected Iraqi territory with a civil affairs unit to meet with locals.

“I was lucky to escape any real fighting,” Vance wrote of his deployment.

Even as a non-combatant, Vance spent more time in combat zones than Walz.

Not exactly. At no point in the article does Politico list his actual rank of Master Sergeant. They state that he only served as a temporary CSM. It was a lot of BS trying to tamp down the outrage. It won't work; A-Waltz’s little nuances may work on civilians, but vets know what he did. He will continue to be Swift Boated until November. The short time between nominations in the election supposedly worked for Harris and Waltz, but now it works against them. They do not have enough time to put this in the rearview mirror. If the new horse story is true, they are screwed. Surely, nothing good will cume from the horse story if it is true.

According to this Wikipedia entry, there are two ranks in the E-9 pay grade:

• Comman Sergeant Major
• Sergeant Major
