Idaho farmers are indeed facing significant challenges related to water access.
The Idaho Department of Water Resources (IDWR) issued a curtailment order for eastern Idaho irrigators who were found to be noncompliant with a state-approved mitigation plan. This order was scheduled to go into effect recently. The curtailment order impacts about 6,400 junior groundwater rights holders who pump water from the Eastern Snake Plain Aquifer. This aquifer supplies water to the Twin Falls Canal Co, which has senior water rights. The projected shortfall of water to the Twin Falls Canal Co is approximately 74,100-acre-feet. To put this in perspective, an acre-foot of water is roughly equivalent to 326,000 gallons, enough to cover an acre of land one foot deep. The potential impact extends to approximately 500,000 acres of farmland throughout the state, including counties such as Bingham, Bonneville, Jefferson, and Clark in eastern Idaho.

Don’t be an Ass.
You don’t know nothing!
I am one of those “Scumbags” and I am more conservative than you!
Furthermore, if they were who you said they were, Idaho would not be getting more conservative with each successive election.
What a Marroon!
I’d posted about this yesterday, but could find little information in the media except for a Fox news article from over a week ago.

What have the Idaho civic engineers been doing the entire time?
Where is the Governor?
So we need lithium batteries more than food. I don’t think this mining company is even a USA company, is it?
We had a drought in NC in the 2005-2007-ish range. One county near us had a population where 1/3 of them were illegals. The county had 60 days of water left at one point but how much water would they have had if there were no illegals.
Whiskey is for drinking, water is for fighting over.
Where is the Governor?….Governor said that there’s nothing he can do
A while back there was an article about how popular and growing a city in Idaho was, probably Boise. They interviewed a realtor for it and she stated how easy it is for people to fly back and forth to Seattle and California.
There was also one about how the locals are getting priced out of their homes in Boise because all the transplants are driving up taxes.
I guess it’s impossible for politicians from city councils, county commissions, state legislatures, and Governors to look out for the folks that have been living there their whole lives.
Doesn’t California have a law where property taxes are frozen until you sell and move to prevent people from being priced out or something to that effect?
No matter you are, the majority of people are represented by some of the most corrupt people you can imagine, even if you grew up with one of them.

This subject was right up his alley.
I (selfishly) wish he was still available for counsel.
Article:
The Idaho Department of Water Resources said there are two plans water users can participate in to avoid curtailment when there is a water shortage. One is a 2009 plan submitted by the Idaho Groundwater Appropriators. The other is a settlement agreement from 2016.
The mitigation plan requires groundwater users to restore aquifer levels at the end of the growing season so levels of water in the aquifer don’t continue to decline.
“Why is there not enough ground water?”
Outflow > Inflow
“And most of the land in Colorado is own by the Federal Government.”
but not the water ...
Jeff was just a couple months older than me. He was married a couple months before I was. Very parallel paths in time. I had no idea that he died in 2021. He lived in Emmmett, ID. I'm in Chubbuck, ID. Sad to learn of his passing. I sent him a Happy Birthday a couple days ago...unaware of his passing.
I never saw an obituary.
About 2019 or so, Jeff was slipping seriously (health wise).
It was about this time I was facing a similar family crises and I lost track of him.
That’s no excuse.. but it happens.
If Jeff has any close friends lurking, please correct and advise. He is sorely missed.
Thank you for the update.
Looks like he outlasted the missus.
I didn’t see that coming.
Such BS! These people are insane!
So the land under the Federal Lands does not belong to the Federal Government?
