There is always the possibility that Biden has been sand bagging his recent public appearances in order to lower expectations.
Another thing that could be going on is that Biden's dopers have cut him off his meds for the last several weeks so his meds will be more effective at the debate.

I think the sweet spot is extremely hard to hit when it comes to juicing. Especially over an hour and a half. I expect an angry man, Get Off My Lawn vibe at the beginning, but at the end, he will be ready for pajamas. Of course, the media will run only clips from the first half hour.
