Another Biden Program Bites The Dust! Ford Halts 2024 F-150 Lightning Shipments (Jan Car And Light Truck Sales Down -0.7% YoY As M2 Money Growth Remains Negative)

Another Biden program bites the dust, this time his big push to encourage everyone to buy an electric vehicle (EV). Meanwhile, Biden keeps going on vacation (as if he REALLY cares about middle America).

Cars and light trucks are seeing declining YoY sales in January (-0.7%) as M2 Money growth remains negative.

Automotive News was the first to report Ford Motor Co. halted shipments of all 2024 F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks for an undisclosed quality control issue just weeks after slashing production volumes for the EV model due to sliding demand.

Last month, Ford announced plans to slash the Lightning production in April “to achieve the optimal balance of production, sales growth and profitability.”

The automaker (and many others, like Mercedes Benz) is recalibrating its electric vehicle strategy as the Biden administration plans to downshift the EV transition as demand plummets.

Thousands of auto dealers nationwide recently warned the ‘climate change warriors’ in the White House: the 2030 EV push is backfiring.

They warned: “Already, electric vehicles are stacking up on our lots which is our best indicator of customer demand in the marketplace.”

A recent note by RBC analyst Tom Narayan said the EV slowdown is far from over:

“Key takeaways thus far from earnings season are that the EV slowdown is not showing any evidence of an inflection, Level 4 autonomy headwinds continue to persist, and fears over supplier inventory overbuild are likely overblown

Given that Biden’s 2030 EV mandate is in full collapse, the downturn in the EV space will likely continue through the second half of this year.

Oddly, Biden’s push for chip manufacturing has worked (at least Nancy Pelosi made over $1 million on NVIDIA). I am so glad the Biden/Congress are making Pelosi even wealthier. /sarc

Per Reuters Jan. 19, 2024 article: "Ford lost an estimated $36,000 on each of the 36,000 EVs it delivered to dealers in the third quarter, the company said in October, after announcing earlier it would slow the ramp-up of money-losing EVs, shifting investment to Ford's commercial vehicle unit and citing plans to quadruple sales of gas-electric hybrids over the next five years." For the Ford folks in Rio Linda, that's a $1.296bn estimated loss.

Yet at Ford, a year ago or so, we heard that hybrid f-150’s and other models were dead-ends and would hinder future growth. The Obama/Biden energy Central Committee probably threatened the former big-three, warning that the taxpayers would not be picking up the tab unless their rainbow-mandates (a long list at Ford) were followed.

Now Japanese brands (and China, apparently) have announced that hybrids are part of their long-term strategy and would let markets determine the production. They learned better from us than we did.

Ford couldn’t sell a product that performed worse and cost more.

Gee, wonder why.

Has common sense just left the building?

Funny story about “not renting an EV at the airport.”

I reserved a car that was the “manager’s special” at the Albuquerque airport recently. Basically they give you what they have available at a rock bottom price. Little did I know that also included an EV. When I showed up at the counter the agent said, “I am supposed to give you and EV but I will not do that to you.” I said they are “pieces of Sh-t and I would not drive it anyway.” His exact words were, “they are pieces of shi-t.” He gave me a full size car at the rock bottom price. I thanked him.

He worked for Thrifty. He was an honest man.

Laugh it up and gloat at the demise of the EV all you want, but unless the California Air Resource Board changes their regulations, California and the 8 other states that adopted CARB's zero emissions regulations will ban the sale of all ICE powered cars in their states, including non-plug in hybrids, by 2035.

So the car companies have spun up manufacturing capacity to meet these deadlines. The fact that they are temporarily slowing or halting production doesn't alter the pending gasoline engine vehicle bans.

Oh no, the California Air Resources Board.

Is CARB like a final boss battle in a video game, an omnipotent cybernetic organism like Skynet, or a bureaucratic entity ostensibly beholden to the public, that will bend when enough pressure is applied?

I wish the idiots would quit dicking around with Biden’s EV wet dream and figure out a way to rust proof F150’s.

Wonder where people in 2035 will tell these states to shove it?

Someone is going to make a fortune on scrapping and disposing unsold EV’s while shareholders get the lavender shaft.

Am I to assume a Ford dealership must accept delivery of whatever vehicles Ford Motor Company ships to them?

Have they no control or input, such that they get more EVS when what they need and want is more ICE autos?

I just picked up a 2004 Chevy Silverado 5.3L 4WD w/124000 miles. Should last me for the remainder of my driving life.

I wonder if government fleets are buying EVs now. They follow all the green trends. Used to be propane/NG was the next big thing so the dem controlled county here bought all NG vehicles (except police) and then moved to hybrids when those were in vogue. Would not be surprised if they were moving to all EV now.

Wow! Ford should hire you for a chief engineers job.
