When considering the ostentatious and attention-seeking members of the avian community, one's mind typically conjures images of peacocks or flamingos. However, it is time to redirect our attention to the captivating Tragopan temminckii, the Temmincks tragopan. This remarkable pheasant species, native to Northern Asia, showcases an extraordinary courtship display that is sure to captivate any observer.
During the breeding season, which occurs in March and April, male tragopans employ a mesmerizing Courtship Dance to attract a female companion. This intricate display involves the male unfurling and inflating its wattle-like gular lappet, inflating its two horns, fluffing up its plumage, and gracefully flapping its wings, all accompanied by subtle head movements. The sheer elegance and precision of this dance are truly awe-inspiring.

A lot of avian courting dances remind me of the dances of some Africans and American Indians.
But this guy hardly needs a dance - his ‘clothes’ are very cool...

Have never heard of this bird before. God makes such wondrous creatures! Thank you for posting this.
Pretty bird.
I was thinking his appearance should let him have a pass on the dance, but the other guys are probably just as good-looking, thus forcing him to trip the light fantastic anyway.
Tastes like chicken?.......................
Who knew Mae West had heard of it?
Most likely. 🤣
Daytime. Nighttime. Daytime. Nighttime.
Steve! Steve! Steve! Steve!
Surely has nothing on Laz.
LOL, fortunately I have never seen Laz’s mating dance. But if I had it would have crashed and failed on me. 🤣
Wow, that’s a very handsome guy!
They’re very calm and good-natured, as well. Most pheasant are pretty tightly wound, or downright aggressive.
Handiwork of Our Great Creator, The Lord Jesus Christ.
No accounting for taste.
Boys will be girls & girls will be boys but I'll remain as I was born.🤣
I like his little ‘tail moves’...
