First Time Tragedy, Second Time Farce
The Pipeline ^ | 18 Sep 2023 | Michael Walsh

Posted on 09/19/2023 8:28:40 AM PDT by Rummyfan

Girl-children and their Pied Pipers took to the streets of Manhattan over the weekend, demanding -- demanding! -- an end to all traditional sources of energy and the immediate installation of the net-zero, carbon-free, powered-by-unicorn-farts utopian future they believe they're owed because, well, just because. The "March to End Fossil Fuels" was an orchestrated kickoff to "Climate Week" convened to Save the Planet and featured appearances by the usual suspects, including la Pasionaria herself, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, as well notable lefty actors such as Susan Sarandon, Kyra Sedgewick, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, and Kevin Bacon, who all have time on their hands since they're on strike from play-acting in films. (Full disclosure: so are the writers, which includes me.) According to the entirely one-sided story by Seth Borenstein of the AP:

“We have people all across the world in the streets, showing up, demanding a cessation of what is killing us,” Ocasio-Cortez told a cheering crowd. “We have to send a message that some of us are going to be living on, on this planet 30, 40, 50 years from now. And we will not take no for an answer.”

This protest was far more focused on fossil fuels and the industry than previous marches. Sunday’s rally attracted a large chunk, 15%, of first-time protesters and was overwhelmingly female, said American University sociologist Dana Fisher, who studies environmental movements and was surveying march participants.

Among the marchers was 8-year-old Athena Wilson from Boca Raton, Florida. She and her mother Maleah, flew from Florida for Sunday’s protest. “Because we care about our planet,” Athena said. “I really want the Earth to feel better.”

Anyone else see the irony of flying from Florida to New York in order to participate in a march calling for the end of the use of fossil fuels?!

And we should always base our policy decisions on the feelings of eight year olds...

We have people all across the world in the streets, showing up, demanding a cessation of what is killing us,” Ocasio-Cortez told a cheering crowd.

What is the carbon footprint of Ocasio-Cortez? Does she use any fossil fuels, or use any products derived from the use of fossil fuels?

If she really feels that fossil fuels are killing us, it would be an interesting debate to balance that, against the millions who would die, if we ceased using fossil fuels. For example, farming and ranching industries which feed us all, depend heavily on those allegedly evil fossil fuels.

So she thinks that “x” amount of people will die because we use fossil fuels. Let’s discuss how “Y” amount of people will die if we couldn’t use fossil fuels in farming.

Or is she one of these people who thinks all of our food comes from the grocery store?

Unless they starve to death first. How exactly do they imagine anyone will be able to farm enough land to keep them in soybeans without diesel fuel? How will food get moved from the fields to the markets?

I’m beginning to look forward to the famines that will come if these idiots get their way. Should thin out the more stupid parts of the urban liberal population.

Orwell warned us that as a group, young women would be the first to gulp down the new orthodoxy, and the first to turn on their fellow citizens.

Make them live up to the “no oil” standard. They get to eat, use, wear anything that was not made from oil, not made with the use of oil (trucks/tractors using diesel, equipment that uses grease, etc...), not brought to them with anything that was produced by things that use oil/oil products. Nothing heated with or cooled with oil/oil products, or anything “green” that used oil products in their manufacture or installation and operation. If they can do that for a year, then they can come back and tell me about how miserable their existence was and how wrong they were.

That was my first thought, in addition to the other stupidity.

Even if by some miracle we were able to stop using gasoline, diesel and natural gas the modern world would collapse without plastic, made of course from various hydrocarbons.

And the hypocrites are wearing clothes that used oil in their manufacture.

And I’ll bet they used soaps and laundry detergent made from that as well.

And I have to wonder how they got there? Walked? Rode a bike made without the use of fossil fuels?

How about we demand that every product available have a label with how much oil/fossil fuels were used in production, and let the free market decide which products will be bought and used.

It will blow the stupid tards minds when they realize they will not be able to buy or do a darn thing, and if they can find a source free from oil it will cost an arm and a leg. They will either renege and be a hypocrit, or live in self imposed dark ages.
