ERNEST HEMINGWAY - Did The Second Amendment Protect His Right To Die?
https://freedom-demokrasi-and-civilised-humanity.com/ ^ | 2nd July, 2023, American time | Ozguy1945

Facing Suicide.

"The world breaks everyone and afterwards many are strong at the broken places."

So wrote Ernest Hemingway in Farewell To Arms (1929)

Hemingway lived most of his life as an outstanding outdoorsman whose understated economical literary style was male to the core.

Like his physician father before him, Hemingway died by suicide on July 2nd, 1961.

"What is the sense of ruining my head" he said of the ECT treatment in his final year that left him a wreck, "and erasing my memory, which is capital, and putting me out of business? It was a brilliant cure, but we lost the patient."

Six months later, Heminway used his favourite shotgun to end his life.

Many American conservatives hold it as an article of faith that their Second Constitutional Amendment, the right to bear arms, protects their freedom.

Does this include the autonomous right to legitimately decide when to end your own life?

Or is suicide a sin?

The article title has been altered for sensationalism.
The correct title is:
“Facing Suicide #3 Ernest Hemingway”

Neither the Second Amendment to the Bill of Rights, nor weapons are due, for Hemingway’s decision.

From his youth, he knew many hopeless situations but no course correction by contributors, and little of faith nor of hope, from “experts” in medicine and religion.

Pure praire and the elements, confronted without end.

I suspect that, there he was with nobody to draw the curtain.

One of his cats pulled the trigger.

That scene at the end of No Country for Old Men with Barry Corbin seemed like a shout out to Key West Hemingway.

If you didn’t create your life, how does it make any sense to think you have the right to destroy it?

Revelations 7:9 gives us a clue

9After this I had a vision of a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue. They stood before the throne and before the Lamb, wearing white robes and holding palm branches* in their hands. 10They cried out in a loud voice:

Either Christianity is going to be so successful in Evangelism in the last days, or God will be far more generous than we can believe as to who is allowed in.

Anyone who says they know God will forgive suicide is lying.

At first, I was struck by what appeared to be logic in your comment. But, I thought a bit, and have to respond with my evaluation, for whatever it might be worth to anyone else reading it.

Jesus didn’t commit suicide, as he was killed by his fellow man. God gave all of us free will, and doesn’t control our actions, even though I suspect he knows how evil and sinful we all are.

The question remains, is it a sin for us to commit suicide? I tend to think so, generally, but feel uncertain is some situations. I have a feeling that “justified euthanasia of us elderly is coming down the pike soon, as we elderly are seen as expensive obligations.

I can’t judge others’ choices. I am not entitled. (and not without fault of my own.). There is so much about God, and His creation that we humans can’t comprehend, but it sure doesn’t keep us from trying, then sinning against one another!

He was a witness to some of Che’s handiwork. He was a witness to a lot of history.

My 41-year-old son ended his life with a hand gun less than 2 weeks ago. He was on Wellbutrin and Xanax mixed with alcohol. He was making plans for the future with his fiancée and was relatively happy, albeit plagued by depression for the last 20 years.

Ryan was raised Catholic but hadn’t practiced his faith in years, although he told a friend recently that he wanted to start going to Mass again. We’re having him cremated, but I know he’s with Jesus or at least in Purgatory, even though he ended his own life, because he wasn’t in his right mind in those last few minutes. The Church now considers mental illness as a mitigating factor in suicide cases.

A very good friend’s nephew recently did the same as Hemingway. The technique doesn’t matter. The result is the issue.

Prayers for Christ to heal your sorrow along with your son whom Christ has the best understanding of his state. Mental illness is a tough hurdle to climb out of.

“After Batista’s flight, mass graves were opened all over the island, full of corpses with broken limbs or missing eyes; many victims had been burned, strangled, disemboweled, or buried alive. Police stations were found to contain torture implements, including handmade tools designed for pulling nails and teeth, electrical wires that could be inserted into ears, and “fire seats”—perforated metal thrones under which flames mutilated genitalia. When Castro asked Cubans for a show of support for Operation Truth, a million demonstrators gathered in Havana to demand more executions”

https://magazine.atavist.com/the-butcher-of-havana-cuba-che-castro-aclu/

“Visiting reporters, politicians, and movie stars lined up for their turn to witness an execution [of a Batista henchman], including the Hollywood matinee idol Errol Flynn, who was so shaken by the experience that he retched on a guard’s shoes.”

“Ernest Hemingway encouraged George Plimpton to witness an execution, because ‘it was important that a writer get around to see just about anything, especially the excesses of human behavior.’”

Thank you for your prayers. He was our oldest child and only son. I still can’t believe he’s gone. We’re just taking it one day at a time, but our family is never going to get over this. He was the spark in our lives and loved by so many. His demons were just too strong and finally won.

I am very sorry to hear that about Ryan, and for your loss.

At the church I attend, my Pastor’s eldest daughter committed suicide on/about last Friday.

Still trying to wrap my head around it and failing. With you in grief. ‘Pod.

What do you think we will be doing in Eternity, while we survey the records of the loved for their absences or why the Hitlers of the world are in Heaven?

Are you really going to be mindless about whether God is just or not?

We will be judging God. He will come out favourably, because He did everything he can to save people, but our records will be open books for others to understand why we are or are not there.
