In a development straight out of a dystopian sci-fi thriller, fast food giant Wendy’s has embarked on a chilling experiment, replacing its drive-through order takers with an AI chatbot powered by Google software. This technological takeover aims to streamline the ordering process by training the AI to understand customer requests and decrease waiting times at the drive-throughs.
According to reports from the Wall Street Journal, Wendy’s is set to launch this eerie transformation in its home state of Ohio, starting with locations in Columbus. The company plans to implement the change in June, all in the name of shorter lines and faster service, as declared by Chief Executive Todd Penegor.

Couple local hamburger joints in town is all I need.
At least AI won't be able to spit on it.
I can picture fast food restaurants bringing back the automat today.
Little Caesar’s already has something similar: You order and pay online, where you’re given a number. Then, you go to the restaurant where the number corresponds to a heated unit holding your order.

I’m convinced.
In many James Bond movies I side with the villain against the evil human race.
Haven’t seen the Terminator ones yet but I’m planning on it since several references to them have been made.
True. Ghetto denizens are used to junk yard dogs.

Blind Mississippi Morris song.
Division of labor. No one armed inside so a piece of cake.
Like the organized crime wives who had to go outside and start the man’s car, just in case of a car bomb.
If anyone knows what I’m talking about when I reference “the Automat” then just eliminate the workers in back refilling the little compartments behind the windows.

Boilerplate.
Come on, RA - tell us what you really feel.
It has ELECTROLYTES!
Pay with a card? They can actually get more information from you that way. Yes, paying with card in person will give them more information than the app does if you use one of the Apple/Samsung/Google Pay or other payment abstraction systems to pay in the app.
Pay with cash? Less of an issue there - but then they have a computer read the license plate on the car you drove there with... and now they have even more information on you.
Increasingly, the app plus payment abstraction system is becoming the *most* private way to do it (if you drove up in a car).
Welcome to McSwineys.🙄
“Yeah, but the restaurant won’t be successfully charged, which is the part important to the restaurant. :P”
Al Sharpton, or someone very like him, will start screaming about the AI being racist because it’s software was written by white ppl to discriminate against blacks and the restaurant was complicit. The restaurant will be sued in civil court which has a lower bar of facts needed to prevail.
At which point it will be determined that the software was written by brown people. :P
I wrote: "Real people would have to do the cooking, though. They’d also have to put the package together and hand it through the window."
Apparently, real people won't have to hand the food through a window:
Wendy's announces plans for underground autonomous robots to deliver food orders to vehicles
“At which point it will be determined that the software was written by brown people. :P”
Well, it will be written by Hindus so you’re absolutely right.
Pretty much what I was implying, yes.
These have already been deployed at some Chik-Fil-As to have a second lane at the drivethrough. They’re related to those classic vacuum driven capsules used in motor bank drivethrough stations.
