Mary Pickford was America’s Sweetheart in the silent movies of a distant departed world. Mary was famous as The Girl With The Curls .......
In 1912, Mary Pickford starred in a movie called “Just Like A Woman” again long before Bob Dylan wrote his strangely passionate, haunting 1966 song:
"Nobody feels any pain Tonight as I stand inside the rain Ev’rybody knows That Baby’s got new clothes But lately I see her ribbons and her bows Have fallen from her curls ……"
Perhaps, like Dylan in 1966, we still yearn for the type of woman that Mary Pickford, The Girl With The Curls, was for America.

As a young boy in Dublin, I posted pictures of Mary Pickford on the walls of my bedroom, living room and on the outside of my bog hut. I continue to this day. I just ordered a Fathead graphic of Mary Pickford that I intend to put in the back seat of my car.
What an interesting profile. I must return to it. I appreciate your sense of humor.
👍😃

During Covid when the baseball stadiums had cut-outs there was a couple of seats in San Francisco with Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin watching the game.
Cracked me up the first time I saw it in their driveway. They had just backed it in. So I did what any red blooded American man would do.
I walked over and asked “Is the ******* full?”

That was the mother of Mary Miles Minter.
I’d use an old fashion term to describe her, “Plain”.
“I’d use an old fashion term to describe her, “Plain”.”
I would use another old fashioned term: “gorgeous”
“Started United Artists with her husband Douglas Fairbanks.”
How important were Chaplin and Griffiths to that effort?
“Mary being named as ‘America’s Sweetheart’ was one of the first examples of ‘fake news’.”
touche .......
Excellent question, though I have no answer. They founded UA to get out from under the studio moguls, who were truly rapacious toward their talent.
