Chicago's new Mayor-Elect Brandon Johnson told a group organizing for a "police-free future" that black people should be removed from "state-sponsored policing" as a way to fight "white supremacy."
During the George Floyd riots in the summer of 2020, Johnson came out in support of the "defund the police" movement and spoke on a panel titled "We Don't Call Police: A Town Hall on a Police-Free Future" in which he praised organizers for pushing "an agenda that actually can transform people's lives," the Chicago Tribune reports.
"And part of it is removing ourselves away from this, you know, state-sponsored policing," he said, "but also the tools that have been placed against Black folks that have been used violently, whether it's policing, or administering standardized tests, or ... around how white supremacy finds its way in every facet of our lives, that we have to fight and resist that."
Johnson also defended looting during the Floyd riots, stating that "what we're seeing obviously is an outbreak of incredible frustration and anguish" that's tied to "a failed racist system," Wirepoints reports: Johnson was asked by a WGN-TV interviewer at [the time widespread looting was taking place], "Do you worry about stores leaving Chicago and the county because they don't think it's safe?"
Johnson bristled at the concern. He replied, "these companies have insurance and assurance." He also said, "you can't take a certain level of urgency to protect capital and the wealthy and not have that same tenacity to provide relief for families that have been devastated through structural racism for generations."
Johnson amplified the point, saying, "We have to redirect dollars away from a failed racist system and move it into the hands of people who really are trying their very best to survive day-to-day. And if we can't do that as a government, we are failing to meet the moment…To continue to criminalize people, and to chastise folks for being poor, it's tired and it's old. We actually need a new direction that really calls for massive investments in neighborhoods." Johnson also claimed in a debate that standardized tests have "roots in eugenics to prove the inferiority of Black people."
He later distanced himself from the "defund the police" movement, stating: "With all due respect, I get how they are trying to paint a brother. I get it. But I'm not going to be subject to a hashtag that no one can define."
Johnson also said just weeks ago he never said "defund the police" -- despite stating during a debate that defunding police is not "a slogan, it's an actual real political goal."
Johnson defeated pro-police former Chicago Public Schools CEO Paul Vallas with 51.42% of the vote versus Vallas' 48.58% in Tuesday's election.
Though Lori Lightfoot was voted out as a result of "widespread dissatisfaction from voters over her handling of crime and policing in the nation's third-largest city," voters replaced her with someone who is even more radical.
The Cubs and the White Sox.....should move.
Da Bears are.
If it was chaotic under Lightfoot, I guess Chicago hasn’t seen anything yet.
Gee. ANOTHER black racist who thinks only black, black, black.
People of Chicago need to lock and load and get ready, Brandon is going to stick it to you.
People in Chicago have long been their own worst enemies.
Will Herr Johnson give up his security detail to keep him safe????
Yeah, but they know somebody else will pay for their “mistakes”.
Love Larson
I'd rather work in my garden or go for a walk....with my dogs.
They can have it. We will build a big beautiful wall around it. Even Snake Pliskin couldn't escape.
They are basically saying that white people are born generically superior and therefore have an inherent advantage over all other races. You can't have a meritocracy when one side is born with godlike abilities and other lesser races have to compete with them.
Yup. Just as Oregon, Washington, Colorado and some of Idaho has been fouled. Texas and Arizona too.
“ Fantastic! We can come to terms with these kind of people.”
Once we get a new government, opening negotiations is job #1
Most victims of violent Black criminals are themselves Black.
So by lifting the "state-sponsored policing" of Black people, Blacks (spec.: Black victims) will be hurt hardest.
Regards,
No way Chicago can elect a more pro crime mayor than Beetlejuice.........
Chicago voters: “Here, hold my beer”.
That said, based on the closeness of the vote, I give it 5-3 odds that the white guy (endorsed by the cop unions) lost through fraud. Democrats cheat each other almost as much as they cheat Republicans.
How anti crime really was he, anyway? I don’t know. But I know that Eric Adams campaigned on being pro law and order. Look how that has worked out.
That's one interpretation of what they're saying. And "IQ" statistics (which we are not allowed to discuss) suggest that there's some truth in that as regards cognitive ability. The same IQ statistics, however, also suggest that East Asian people are superior to European people in that regard.
Another interpretation is that White European people INVENTED Western Civilization, so of course it's set up to benefit White European people and disadvantage others. This belief doesn't hold up to scrutiny. East Asian people in particular get along very well in it.
And there's probably a lot more going on ...
In any case, I think the people whining about "white supremacy" are just making excuses.
I have a different take. I think the progressives have found ways to perfect “the steal”
No way, in my opinion, that Chicago dumped Lori Lightfoot due to all the crime in Chicago and elected the same type.
It seems no matter what election, unless it is a deep red district, that progressives are winning and with 70 and 80% turnout. DEM constituencies dont ture out in #’s like that. Something else at play here.
