Bill Nighy has been my ‘secret crush’ for decades! *HEART*
"Starry Night" a close second.
Everyone talks about "Starry Night" and listening to that Don McLean song, but the far better "Starry Night" number is "Spinning Away" by Brian Eno and John Cale - really captures the mood.
I like A. Wyeth as well. One of my favorite paintings with a dog is Master Bedroom.
“Do you have a favorite [Van Gogh]?”
No, but I’m sure Amy Pond does.
My favorite picture is in my mind and is a screenshot on one of my computers...
Van Gogh, The Doctor, and Amelia visiting the Van Gogh art exhibit at the 21st-century museum...
That’s my song and that’s my painting. Went to a Van Gogh exhibition last year and enjoyed it so much. He was a tortured soul and showed that to be the case in some of his paintings.
Do You Have a Favorite Painting of His?
= = =
If I did, no one would know.
He was a Dutch Reformed minister at the time and took to living among ‘the poor.’ He lost his ministerial position for being ‘too zealous.’ He always had a very sensitive place for the ‘downtrodden’ and it shows in ‘the potato eaters.’
One thing I always loved about ‘Irises’ is that lonely white iris facing another direction from the purple ones. I suspect that was him...
i had a huge thick book about him and his battles with mental problems, and it contained all the letters he wrote various individuals, especially to his brother- i read it cover to cover- He was quite a character-
His early drawing skills, and composition skills, and skills with color weren’t very good, but his drawings and paintings still held a lot of feeling and emotion-
He started as a preacher to local school and coal mining community- but his appointment wasn’t renewed because he couldn’t establish much interest from the miners to attend the local church- in the coal mines, where he preached, he was known as “The Christ of the Coal Mine”- After he wasn’t renewed by the church- he began painting- and became one of art history’s greatest innovative painters-
At first glance, the paintings look sloppy- uneducated, but spend much time with the paintings, and it is very clear that in his later years, he was mastering the use of color theory- creating some truly great pieces
We are very fortunate that he was a prolific painter, and obsessed with capturing and creating beauty- The world is much better off having had him enter the art world with such gusto
lol- cant be too careful with stolen art lol
holy cow that’s awesome- thanks for postign it
I also have:
'Groundhog Day'
And, 'Wind From The Sea'
All originals, of course! *SMIRK*
Hoping to find a decent reproduction of, 'Helga Braids' one day. His attention to detail is astounding. And in Watercolor, no less!
That movie is so cool! I share it with anyone that will listen. :)
Those are beautiful. Wyeth really was a master of composition.
And today is my seventieth birthday. Yes, I was born on the one-hundredth birthday of Van Gogh.
It really ties the room together better than the Dude's rug would have.
The Velvet Elvis... of course.
