Another sign of a not healthy economy is housing. New Home Sales collapsed -19.4% from January 2022 (aka, year-over-year or YoY).
If I were Joe Biden, I would be touting the month-over-month numbers, up 7.20% from December to January. But the reality is that year-over-year new home sales are down -19.4%.

Many houses on offer are in lousy condition.
In the past they would have sold quickly, but no longer, at least not without a rational price reduction.
I bought a home to live in.
It is a investment only in that all the money I payed for it is recoverable and home rent/lease money is not.
Sales numbers only affects realty people or other people trying to make a profit off somebody that just wants a place to live.
The less than 3% mortgage money is no longer available in an ~10% inflation country.
I bought a house in the country on five acres. Suddenly, every open cow field has been converted to condos or single-family homes. Although building is still going on, a majority of the homes and condos have not been sold. They’re finished or being finished and there are no curtains in the windows, cars in the driveways or parking lots and no trash cans out on trash day. My guess is they will all be sold to the government or to Black Rock and they’ll go Section Eight. Goodby to rational civilized living in the country.
I stopped by the condo site and talked to the contractor. I asked him three times how many of the condos have been set aside as “affordable housing.” He changed the subject all three times. They’ll have somewhere in the neighborhood of a hundred units. If you have even one gang=banger, the neighborhood will rapidly become a ghetto. This is what happened to the last planned neighborhood I lived in.
