According to US officials, the Air Force F-16 that shot down an object over Lake Huron on Sunday missed its first attempt.
“A second Sidewinder air-to-air missile was needed.” Fox News reported.
It is unclear where the first missile landed.

The pilot was very good actually.
The problem is a sidewinders is not remotely designed to shoot a balloon (or whatever this was).
Depending on the model of SW, there was probably considerable issue getting it on target.
It was a trans-balloon, it self identified as a cloud, and the first missile went right through it.
Really? 400K? what the heck, that’s for one missile?

Actually it wasn’t a balloon. It was an Octagon type craft.
Block II Sidewinder is 398k a pop. Jets are around 85k an hour to operate.
China can eat our defense budget up by launching a few thousand balloons that probably cost less than a grand each.
This is absurd. Yes, they should have shot the big one down and maybe these too but watching our politicians act like we don’t spy our asses off too is comical.
