Most presidents of the United States, while in office, have kept pets including dogs. From John Adams's Juno, Mark, and Satan to Joe Biden's Commander, dogs have long kept US Presidents company. Out of the 46 presidents who lived in the White House since John Adams moved in in 1800, only three did not have any presidential pets while in office: James K. Polk, Andrew Johnson, and Donald Trump.

Didn’t Obama give up ‘his’ dog when he moved out? It was a prop for silly shallow reporters to gush over.

I am surprised the article didn't mention LBJ getting in trouble for picking up his dog by the ears. Better fate than Buddy had, at least.

Also, how can we discuss presidential dogs without mentioning Checkers, who humanized Nixon back when he was VP? (Of course, Checkers probably moved on the the doggy hunting ground by the time Nixon was actually president, but it is still a great story.)

Eleanor Roosevelt was gly.
She was so ugly she scared off the "U".

The best was Hoover, with his German Shepherd. Early type, too, before they changed for good in the ‘30s.

That’s interesting, yet again.
Trump never had a dog.
A few years back, lots of claims Pres without dog has to have something wrong with him. Clinton, Uhbama had that problem. (They pathetically got a dog to cheer people up.)
I never saw that complaint with Trump.
Goes along with the lectures about MIL service, I guess. Squawking for years, then amazingly silent!
