Do you ever look at your friends and wonder how in the world they just can’t see the truth? This is a problem that many of us conservatives experience on a regular basis. Sometimes I just look at people and think, “how can you not get it?” Then one day a good friend of mine sent me a Bible passage and told me that this verse made everything makes sense. And I agree.

What if it is actually impossible for people to see the truth? And, even more incredibly, what if it was true that it is God, who makes it impossible for them to see the truth? On the surface this may seem strange, but when you read the passage below, it is obvious that God does this from time to time. And as you look at how people are responding to what’s going on in the world, it’s just about the only thing that makes sense. In fact, the passage below has been a great blessing to me, keeping me from being frustrated with people, because I understand that ultimately, it is God that either blinds people or opens their eyes to the truth. In second Thessalonians, chapter 2, we read about the Man of Lawlessness. When we read about people who are living at the time of the coming of the Man of Lawlessness, because people refuse to love the truth and be saved, “God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie, and so that all will be condemned would not believe the truth, but have delighted and wickedness.” There it is, right in your Bible. Now, read through this passage. Pray through this passage. Pray that you are responding to God’s work in your life.

And pray that those around, you will respond to the work in God in their lives as well so that their eyes can be opened and they could be saved

The Man of Lawlessness – 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12

2:1 Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,

2 not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.

3 Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.

4 He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.

5 Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?

6 And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.

7 For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.

8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.

9 The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,

10 and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.

11 For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie

12 and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.

Saint Paul's words were more more precisely:

καὶ διὰ τοῦτο πέμψει αὐτοῖς ὁ θεὸς ἐνέργειαν πλάνης εἰς τὸ πιστεῦσαι αὐτοὺς τῷ ψεύδει

Where πλάνη can mean delusion or error or a wondering about like straying from the path.

I take it to mean God is giving people freedom and for those that hate the truth that freedom means paths of lies they may wonder around in and tell themselves.

In a very real sense the truth of God is awful in proportion to how much one loves real Justice and real Goodness. God is also the source of all things and all our abilities. The freedom to avoid that truth to the extent we have it must be an ability afforded us from God.

The truth can be an awful thing to those who dwell in darkness. God allows us to shut our eyes if we are unwilling to adapt to the light. The cost of opening our eyes becomes greater the more depraved we become. Do women who have had abortions enjoy seeing abortion as killing an innocent? Do people who pushed for the jab being mandatory enjoy hearing about its actual safety record? The truth can be a very awful thing if we are not willing to give up our vanities and come humbly before the LORD and repent.

If they were to “come to Jesus” at the last moment, He would have to forgive them, even though they spent their entire life on Earth being sinful and doing evil things hurting others, like Hitler for instance.

So he makes them where they cannot ever become freed from their delusions and will die in their sins.

Think about it, would you or anybody want to see Hitler and his gang in Heaven?..................

We know that God would prefer to have all men come to salvation. 2 Peter 3:0 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

That doesn't mean everyone will be saved, because it was also God's will that man has Free Will. So the Lord gives us a choice and does not force us to accept the salvation He offers.

We also know that there are circumstances where God stops striving with man. Gen 6:3 So there may come a day where God stops trying to win a person who rejects God and embraces sin.

And there are multiple instances of God giving up and executing summary judgement. Sodom and Gomorrah, the Flood, Israel's conquest of Canaan are a couple of examples.

Notice in the parable about the man in Hell who wanted Abraham to send someone to warn his brothers.

But Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; let your brothers listen to them.’ 29Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them. 30‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone is sent to them from the dead, they will repent.’ 30And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent. 31Then Abraham said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’ ”

The implication is that a point is reached where people just won't listen no matter what.

On the other hand, there's an Old Testament person where the Bible talks about how long it took for God to break through his darkness. But I can't find it so the wording must be a little different.

In the Exodus, God sent 10 plagues each time Pharaoh refused to let Israel go. The first 5, Pharaoh hardened his heart. Starting with the 6th plague, God hardened Pharaoh's heart. Part of the reason for that, was that the 10 plagues were related to gods that Egypt worshipped. So the plagues were designed to show that God was the Real God.

On the Damascas road, Jesus kept his disciples from recognizing him, until he had a chance to talk to them and explain why the Messiah had to be sacrificed. So the lesson is that you're not guaranteed tomorrow. You're not guaranteed to get another chance.

Even God’s patience runs out. Man is by nature a sinful creature, ever since the fall of Adam. Some will never ever repent under any circumstances because they revel in their sinful lifestyles. For them there is a point of no return, and I believe we have reached that point..................
