Alabama had an amendment on the ballot this year - Aniah’s Law, so named after a young lady who was murdered by someone out on bail.

“Amends the Alabama Constitution to allow judges to deny bail for more offenses. Bail currently can be denied for “capital offenses.” This would expand that to include charges including murder, kidnapping, rape, sodomy, sexual torture, domestic violence, human trafficking, terrorism and others.”

Passed with 80% of the vote.

Now that I”m reading it though, and the way it would be applied, would it still allow a judge such as this to grant bail, even though not required to.
