New gun control is often marketed as “commonsense” rules that save lives – and it works, too, according to the left. A recent drug bust in the Big Apple, however, demonstrates just how ineffective these laws are. The good news for the people of New York is that close to a million potentially fatal doses of fentanyl were intercepted before they could be sold to users, likely disguised as some other less deadly drug. The bad news for the anti-gunners, however, is that officers also confiscated illegal firearms.
An October 12 press release by the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York and a subsequent email from the DEA highlights the good work of law enforcement who took off the streets enough fentanyl to wipe out just over a tenth of the city’s population. It seems to be a job well done, and many lives were probably saved. However, the raid also reveals a truth that has long been self-evident to many: Criminals don’t care about gun control laws. From the DEA’s email:
“Yesterday, DEA and the Office of the Special Narcotics Prosecutor for the City of New York announced a significant seizure of fentanyl. Two individuals in New York have been charged following the seizure of approximately 300,000 rainbow fentanyl pills, 20 pounds of fentanyl in white and blue powder form, and multiple weapons, including a loaded Tec-9 [sic] semi-automatic assault weapon, an extended magazine, and a box of ammunition. This significant seizure represents more than 850,000 deadly doses of fentanyl and fentanyl pills prevented from reaching New York communities.”Note the firearm called out by name: a TEC-9. New York is one of several states that specifically bans the TEC-9 and all its variants – KG-99, TEC DC-9,...

If drug dealers operate in a state with tough “gun control” laws, they have the advantage because they will know that law-abiding citizens will likely not be armed. They can thus operate with impunity.
The gun buyback programs should provide bull’s-eye stickers
for those who turn in weapons.
Common sense is a tribute to people who have had common experiences in life, and certain conclusions may be drawn from these learning opportunities, thus the term, common sense. But there are so many different sets of experience by diverse factions, that there really is little that is common to all of them, therefore the rarity. What make sense for one group, may prove to be truly confusing for another group, and no common ground can be found.
If firearm buy backs work so well why not have drug buy backs?
Here in Hawaii even with the latest Supreme Court ruling on concealed carry the police chiefs are making it impossible for “Grandma or Grandpa” to protect themselves. Cops here are up to hours away at best, sometimes.
We have a pidgeon saying “Ainokea”, it means I don’t care.
We will go to Ainokea carry. Actually many already have in response to Rule by Democrats in Honolulu.
Pass all the laws you want. We will not comply especially with USSC rulings to date.
The cartels can manufacture entire submarines to smuggle drugs. Manufacturing a simple semiauto like a TEC9 would be child’s play for them. Ditto the manufacture of ammunition for it. (Speaking gas a retired mfg. engineer, who frankly has no interest in doing either.)
Small arms making is a genii that cannot be put back into the lamp.

Not soke measley TEC-9, but the utterly failed, decades-long, multi-billion dollar “War of Drugs”, is what demonstrates that a “War on Guns” would produce anything other than massive law enforcement spending and a trillion dollar illegal firearms industry. Gangs and corrupt cops protecting them would love their new exclusive product.
The important thing it would do would be to enable our betters to classify all gun owners as criminals.
They could then selectively enforce the law to imprison all their political opponents.
Oung
“Common sense” gun control would be to prosecute felons found in possession of guns, their girlfriends who buy/hold guns for them, and reinstitute “stop and frisk”. And no plea bargain.
But we know that the usual suspects will denounce this as racist.

Now imagine what an unemployed master machinist could do in his basement with a CNC milling machine.

Use “common sense” in terms of restrictions on abortion and watch their heads explode.
