Gun registry at Cabela's
9/25/2022 | antidemoncrat

I went to my nearest Cabela's this week to do a little shopping. When I entered the store I noticed a sign at the service counter that essentially said guns entering the store must be registered at the counter. I asked if that was all guns and was told yes. I took out my conceal carry and put it on the country. Thee attendant asked me if the gun had bullets in it (DUH!). I said yes. He then told me I had to take the gun to the gun sales and have them unload it and then bring it back up to register it. I then told him I would just take it back out to my car and leave it. Probably last shopping trip to Cabela's.

What sign are you talking about? The one in Cabale’s? The store employee said it needed to be checked. No, idiots are those that ignore 30.06 postings or ignore signs that say no firearms allowed and get caught carrying.

The second rule is is a business posts any sign that exhibits a no firearms policy then don’t carry or shop somewhere else.

“You do realize if you go into a placed that says no fire arms or posts the 30.06 that says no fire arms and you carry a conceal firearm get caught with one you could lose your conceal permit?”

Not in my state. All they can do is tell you to leave, if you refuse, the charge is Misdemeanor Trespassing.

Live and lesson to be learned: Don’t do everything you are told.

“If you can’t properly carry a pistol concealed then you probably shouldn’t be carrying one anyway.”

I’ve had a conceal carry permit for over 15 years. I’ve almost always respected the right of a business to say no to firearms. Up until my last renewal I’ve always attended the classes required for a renewal and felt it was necessary to make sure I was up to any changes in the laws. Since conceal carry requirements were relaxed to almost nothing I believe many who are now carrying shouldn’t be.

“NOTE: This policy does not apply to licensed concealed carry firearms or to holstered firearms where open carry is permitted.”

Apparently not all employees are clued in on this.

” My local Cabela’s has a sign as well, but it is clearly only related to bringing guns in for servicing. I have never had even a hint that they were keeping a ‘registry’ for any purpose other than to make sure those guns are safely handled.”

I asked if the sign applied to all guns and was told yes. Maybe not all of their employees are clued into the actual policy.

Maybe some employees don’t understand their policy.

Since conceal carry requirements were relaxed to almost nothing I believe many who are now carrying shouldn’t be.....I stand shoulder to shoulder with you on that.

I know millions would argue against me and scream “2nd Amendment” and “shall not be infringed” all day, every day, to me. Don’t care. But....I’ve done enough instructing in my day: police, military and security contracting, to know that there are many that are waaaayyyyyy over confident in their ability to handle a pistol. Therefore, I’m a YUGE fan of having to show some basic level of proficiency.

But, muh rights. 100%. What not one single person on the planet has the right to do is go in public, with a pistol they’re not comfortable with, carrying it in a way that they’re not comfortable with nor practice with. Yes, they have the right to defend themselves. But they don’t have the right to not know how to use and carry the damn thing and shoot some innocent person.

Respecting the right of the business is fine. Again, can’t argue that. But, in spite of all I’ve said, what they don’t know ain’t gonna hurt them.

The irony of a store selling guns declaring itself gun free….

Its called concealed carry for a reason.

I personally don’t, but this should be obvious and repeated a hundred times. This is a situation where if you don’t understand and follow the CC rules, then you have proven yourself unworthy to carry.

When I retired from the US of A Army, I landed in Bremerton, WA. My wife was working for Wells Fargo, back before all because that was where she was from, and I got a job there in Seattle. We lived across Pukeit Sounds Good. When it came good that she could retire, we wanted to retire in beautiful Cody!! We stayed there and went out and hit all the sights, mountains, Big Horn Antelopes; the fishes, hiking, riding our road bikes going up and down the mountain slopes, yada, yada, yada. Cody was our base camp and drove or rode the bikes off to see these areas around. Fantastic land scape, etc. But we soon discovered that it cost your left sack for land or buildings. So, my wife said we’d go to the second place, sweet home ALABAMA!!! Dat breeze my home turf, so with the lower prices and land costs, my very loving spouse said GOOD FREIKING GRIEF!!! Why didden we do this the first time, come to Alabama???????????????? We have a nice little house, 17 or 18 square foots. The house was maybe old. She filed her stuff with the fools up in Sodom on the Potomac River and before long, we were calling the movers to get our home stuff delivered to our new digs!!! Great stuff..

Their BS is much more dangerous than just leaving you alone.

I would definitely ignore their sign, if I didn’t just leave

The sign has nothing to do with being anti - 2A. The problem is safety and liability. Having run a gun store for many years, let me remind you: half the people who come through the door are statistically below average intelligence. Unload your gun before you enter the shop. I don’t trust you to do it inside and y9u shouldn’t trust me to do it. If that is insulting, go somewhere else.
