In a major announcement, the Florida Department of Education said they have rejected 41% of proposed K-12 mathematics books intended for use during the 2022-2023 public school year. These books did not meet state academic standards due to their apparent inclusion of Critical Race Theory principles and other controversial approaches to education.
The statement from Florida’s Department of Education reads: “Reasons for rejecting textbooks included references to Critical Race Theory (CRT), inclusions of Common Core, and the unsolicited addition of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) in mathematics.”
“The highest number of books rejected were for grade levels K-5, where an alarming 71 percent were not appropriately aligned with Florida standards or included prohibited topics and unsolicited strategies,” Florida’s D.O.E. added.
“It seems that some publishers attempted to slap a coat of paint on an old house built on the foundation of Common Core, and indoctrinating concepts like race essentialism, especially, bizarrely, for elementary school students,” Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) said in a statement.

For later
Thankfully, 29% of elementary school math books still attempt to teach math. It could have been worse.
Critical Race Theory is bad. It was developed by mathematician William Byegaud Gates. Essentially it predicts winners of races - horse races, dog races, NASCAR races, etc..So you can see what their dastardly communist thinking is. They’re turning our school, kids into gamblers! Don’t let YOUR kids get hooked on gambling. Stop Critical Race Theory in your school.
Florida is a major purchaser of K-12 textbooks so rejection by the board of education is noteworthy.
I wish the their Board of Regents for all the community colleges, four year colleges, and universities (all public) would reject Howard Zinn’s book “A People’s History of the United States”. It is not a serious work of American History and my guess is that only leftwing woke history professors use the book. BTW leftwing woke history professors encompasses most history faculty at our colleges and universities.
I thought critical race theory is when the bear is chasing you and your friend. And it’s critical that you win the race against your friend.
Thank you, DOE.
Keep up the good work!
Look how bad off the other 49 states are. Hell hole is all around us.
Math is not a subject that needs to be “rewritten”. Numbers are centuries old.
Good1 That’s a start.
Common core....”4 out of 3 people have a problem with fractions”. Yeah....we want that. I always tell the cashier to check my math because I went to public school. As if they could. Sure don’t want a common core math grad designing the bridges I drive on or the high rises I ride an elevator in.
So now we learn, we NEED the DOE. The DOE under DeSantos, needs to reject wokeness and save the children.
How in the hell do you have CRT and Common Core in a math book???
Ask these guys. From 2015...

Mary Jane has fiddy cents. How many dime packs can she buy from her homey?
easy.. John and his husband Bill are each traveling at 50 miles an hour towards each other, if they are 100 miles away from each other to start how long until they meet to celebrate their love?
“..How in the hell do you have CRT and Common Core in a math book???...”
that’s the same thought I’ve had since reading the article.
Where do other states stand on these books? Parents should demand to know.
Without gettin’ a cap busted in her ass
