My local Krogar grocery employee told me today that ID Scanning would become mandatory on 8/31 to buy alcohol
I tried nicely to explain to her that it would violate my privacy rights and that it would be illegal under my state law.
She told me not so nicely that she would enjoy refusing to sell me alcohol in a few days.
I went to a few other stores and talked to the employees and they said pretty much the same thing. None of the workers were told that it was not legally required, probably so they could be thrown under the bus.
I had the same problem with Rite Aid a last year ago until I was forced to sue them.
If anyone has a Kroger store near them, please let them know that this is not OK.
Kroger has had lots of data breaches so it is proven they cannot safeguard your data that they never needed in the first place
Hopefully I have done enough to discourage this new policy (and I expect to sue), but if more people who believe in privacy let them know it may be helpful
I am way to old to need fake ID, or Fake Covid cards.
No Corp should demand to steal my info and monetize without permission
Honestly it really really disturbs me that no one seems to care.
(I did have a nice talk with the 20 year old security guard who had an IQ far above the VP who wrote this policy, I have some hope for him)
Looks like they’re in WA .... this person has the same complaint ...
I would suspect that it's one of the states that have lots of Krogers.
Per the link I just posted....someone said they found out that your DL scan includes all info on front of DL....and, your SS#.
No idea if this is true. No telling what all is in that scanned info, right?
Start practicing now for later.
That was an interesting link.
It came up on a “Kroger” search, oddly enough.
“Are Kroger stores in all 50 states?”
They’re King Soopers in Colorado.
Yeah I can agree that sounds stupid, but there is a difference between just being carded and stealing id theft info.
I have no problem being carded.
If I know the clerk and they have carded me 20+ times I might wonder why it is really necessary, but I would still let them look at my ID.
I would not let them scan it
Kroger operates a number of different store brands, in addition to Kroger stores:
—Fred Meyer hypermarkets in the northwest
—Ralph’s supermarkets in southern California & Las Vegas
—Fry’s supermarkets in Arizona
—Smith’s supermarkets in Idaho and Utah
—King Soopers supermarkets in Colorado
—Food4Less discount stores in California and other states
==Harris Teeter supermarkets in North Carolina, Virginia & DC
—Dillon’s supermarkets in Kansas
—Roundy’s supermarkets in Wisconsin & Illinois
—Mariano’s in the Chicago area (upscale, like a smaller Wegmans)
—QFC in Seattle and Portland
It is interesting that while Kroger is an Ohio based company (HQ in Cincinnati), they don’t have operations in the Cleveland market, having ceded the field to operators such as Giant Eagle, Marc’s, Heinens, Meijer, Walmart and Target.
Kroger has its name at the University of Kentucky: “Kroger Field at Commonwealth Stadium”.
Do it every day for a month.
I like the way you think.
Fred Meyer in Washington and Oregon.
They are Fry’s stores in Arizona.
While this is for Georgia, my state, you can find the relevant law at this site.

Why did you post that stupid comment to me?
