Scanning Drivers Licenses and Privacy Rights.

My local Krogar grocery employee told me today that ID Scanning would become mandatory on 8/31 to buy alcohol

I tried nicely to explain to her that it would violate my privacy rights and that it would be illegal under my state law.

She told me not so nicely that she would enjoy refusing to sell me alcohol in a few days.

I went to a few other stores and talked to the employees and they said pretty much the same thing. None of the workers were told that it was not legally required, probably so they could be thrown under the bus.

I had the same problem with Rite Aid a last year ago until I was forced to sue them.

If anyone has a Kroger store near them, please let them know that this is not OK.

Kroger has had lots of data breaches so it is proven they cannot safeguard your data that they never needed in the first place

Hopefully I have done enough to discourage this new policy (and I expect to sue), but if more people who believe in privacy let them know it may be helpful

Kroger cannot keep your personal info safe

They can scan my ID with their eyes or they can restock the booze, along with a cart full of groceries.

“Did YOU talk to the MANAGER?”

of course.

did I talk to lots of area managers? yes

Am I escalating this through corporate, of course I am

I am just saying Do not let people Scan your ID barcodes and steal your ID for any non legitimate reason.

Put tape over it so if they try to steal it they cannot.

Then ask the thief for their own name, address, birthday, height, weight, eye color, drivers license number etc and see if they will willingly give it to you.

If you can vote without a driver’s license you should be able to buy booze without a driver’s license.

The result was that Rite Aid does not demand to Scan my ID when I buy alcohol.

In your state, is it 1) illegal for them to scan you ID or 2) not legally required for them to scan your ID?

If #1, then this is lawsuit opportunity. If #2, then you might be stuck having to find a friendlier store.

In any case, since black people are too stupid to get ID (according to our Leftist superiors), requesting ID is inherently racist. So you have additional grounds for lawsuit if you identify as black.

Can you demagnetize the magnetic strip?

One source says:

"a card can be demagnetized when close to other magnets or electric motors that use electromagnetic forces such as loudspeakers.

Inexpensive speakers with permanent magnets can also cause problems if near credit cards because their own magnetic field may affect the data on your card"

In my state it is I believe Illegal.

There is no case law, but the statute is pretty clear in my mind.

Regardless, In any State you should refuse this privacy invasion and put a piece of tape over your barcode right now.

Unless you are ok with Identity Theft, in which case you should just post all your info here

Would anyone post that info here? I really hope not.

Nor should you allow any corp to demand it for any illegitimate reason.

Please Resist Identity Theft

Just like that female manager of Dairy Queen in Commerce City Colorado told me a couple years ago before she threw me out, “Masks are corporate policy. I don’t care about the constitution.”

The local grocery store asks for your birthday to put in the computer when you buy booze. I tell them 1/1/1899

I have never had anyone ask Can we scan your ID so we can have all of your personal Info.

They only say, Can I see your ID.

I always say of course and hand it over, They grab it and try then try to Scan the Barcode on the back. In my case it Fails.

Mostly they get confused, sometimes they go Nazi when I ask them logical questions like

Is my ID valid and issued by the state?

Am I obviously over 21 ?

Have you ever heard of the 4th amendment ?

Can I get a copy of your companies data retention policies ?

Do you know how many times your company has been hacked and/or had a major data breach in the last 10 years ?
