New Poll Hints That Defending Abortion Is Not the Killer Issue the Democrats Thought Would Save Them From Voters in November

While the purple-haired set was screaming out their impotent rage, the more astute observers of American politics were predicting that this was exactly what the Democrat Party needed to offset the vicious mismanagement of the nation at the hands of Joe Biden. If Americans were torqued about “supply chain” breakdowns, no baby formula (Joe Biden Invokes Defense Production Act to Try to Fix the Baby Formula Shortage His Henchmen Created), gas increasing by $3/gallon in 18 months, and businesses crushed by COVID lockdowns, by gosh, the very thing to take their mind off that string of catastrophes was the right to kill infants. READ: CNN Polling Expert Puts the ‘Ow’ in ‘Ouch’ for Democrats by Explaining Just How Bad It Is.
The Washington Post:
Supporters of abortion rights and their Democratic allies predicted that the thunderclap heard Monday night with Politico’s publication of a leaked draft opinion by Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr. would reverberate through to the fall campaign and possibly beyond.
That, they said, could make an election that so far has largely appeared to be a referendum on President Biden and his party into a choice between Democratic and Republican governance that could narrow an enthusiasm gap that currently favors the Republicans and ultimately hold down expected GOP gains.
“The right wants to take this to a place — and I think this will be a problem for the right — to a very dark place that I don’t think Americans are prepared for,” said Democratic pollster Anna Greenberg. “Gender politics has been relatively muted for some time. This brings it to the fore and it will be dramatically different than what we’ve seen for a long time.”
Bloomberg:
Abortion-rights supporters are more galvanized than opponents by the prospect of the Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, a new poll found, hinting at how a leaked draft opinion may shape the midterm elections.
USA Today:
At a time when President Joe Biden’s approval rating has been underwater for months, the leaked opinion and possible overturning of Roe v. Wade by the Supreme Court could energize Democratic voters in a way the president has so far been unable to do and give Democrats a better shot at maintaining control of Congress, some experts say. But interviews with anti-abortion advocates indicate their supporters would be energized, too.
“I think the wholesale reversal of Roe is a wild card,” said David Axelrod, a top Democratic consultant and former senior adviser and chief strategist for President Barack Obama. “Democrats are facing ferocious headwinds this fall. But if the court follows through on this, the backlash could provide some counterweight – particularly if it brings more pro-choice women and younger voters to the polls.”
A month after the Dobbs decision, we are getting a clearer picture of the effects of that decision on the 2022 elections. From a Washington Post article headlined Americans dismayed at end of Roe are less certain they will vote, poll finds:
Nearly two-thirds of Americans say the end of Roe v. Wade represents a “major loss of rights” for women, a Washington Post-Schar School poll finds, but those who support abortion access are less certain they will vote this fall — a sign of the challenges facing Democrats who hope the issue will motivate their base in the midterms.
A lot of the stuff in the poll doesn’t make sense, but as it seems to have been constructed to create a “Democrat voting intensity increases after Dobbs” storyline, it is worth reading.
But the poll also provides evidence of an enthusiasm problem for Democrats: Those who reject the idea that the court’s ruling is a loss for women are 18 percentage points more likely to express certainty they will vote in the midterms — 70 percent compared with 52 percent of those who do see such a loss, according to the Post-Schar School poll conducted July 22 to 24.
Democrats and women, especially younger women, are particularly uncertain they will vote. About 1 in 3 women under 40 are sure they will cast a ballot even as they have strong concerns about rollbacks in abortion access.
“Is the discontent with Democratic Party leadership and policies generally so deep that those most affected by the court decision … still plan to sit out this election?” said Mark Rozell, dean of the Schar School of Policy and Government at George Mason University, who worked on the poll. “I struggle to wrap my head around this disconnect.”
Lots of things can happen between now and November. Heaven knows, the GOP is led by a collection of cretins and grifters who could turn a wet dream into a horror show. What is abundantly clear is that now is not the time to let up on the pro-life message. The people who opposed abortion for the last 50 years are just as fired up to stamp out this hideous fake medical procedure as they ever were, perhaps more so now that we are making real progress. More tellingly, most of the people who claim to be injured by Dobbs aren’t angry; they are defeated and demoralized. We can’t afford to lapse into triumphalism, there is a lot of hard work to do to rescue this country from Biden and his cronies, but we needn’t be fearful of losing votes because the Supreme Court did the right thing.

I still hear the Roe energizing effect on leftists will be a bounteous gift for the Dems. Hope that is premature.
We have to hope gas and groceries and other important items will still be costly, the stock market will go down and recession will be declared BEFORE the election.
But mainly, even with our shoddy and wimpy slates of GOP candidates, we will fight hard and get out and vote to save this great country.
No excuses.

https://www.stopp.org/article.php?id=8564 The Court never ruled that the result of the abortion had to be a dead baby, much to the joy of the eugenic-biomedical establishment
You'd think republicans would see that as deserving of some pre-election publicity.

Nonetheless the issue frightens me. All I’ve ever seen it do is get good candidates for public offices defeated by vermin. Women are still 51% of all voters, everywhere on Earth.

What’s the end result of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, after the dust settles, the number of abortions performed in the USA will probably not be that much different.
States that are strongly pro-life had regulated and closed abortion clinics in their states to the point where it was practically impossible to get an abortion in those states.
States that were strongly pro-choice have gone to the other extreme.
Once people realize the ability to get an abortion has not really changed that much now versus prior to this decision.
The end result will be abortion will become less and less important as a political issue.

True. If the GOP fails to seize the opportunity of 2022 then they will have squandered historic advantage. . The rebirth of the GOP occurred in 1994 when Newt Gingrich engineered the nationalizing of the Congressional elections, and the GOP won a House majority for the first time in about 40 years.
This year is a prime setup for again nationalizing the elections. Make every seat a referendum on the Biden catastrophes. Do not bite on stupid sh*t and do not let democrats steal the race by pretending to be Trumpian republicans (Tim Ryan Ohio)..
Every Republican should hang Biden around the neck of every democrat especially incumbents who have a voting record to defend.
Remember the wise words of Serpenthead Carville: “its the economy, stupid!”

The people most likely to have a conniption over Roe being overturned are overwhelmingly people who were going to show up and were going to vote Democrat ANYWAY. ie this did not gain them hardly any new voters.
The ones who are most ardent about it are middle aged and older women and a handful of Left leaning men (afraid this would make it more likely they would have to take responsibility for their kids). Its not 1990 anymore. There isn’t a large youth movement that is rabidly pro abortion.
This is particularly so as more voters see that this doesn’t make abortion illegal - it merely returns the issue to the states. Also, most of the American people would allow it but with restrictions (ie not beyond the first trimester, waiting periods, counseling first, parental consent for minors required, all OK, etc). In other words, most Americans are fairly moderate on the issue. 3rd trimester abortions are seen as absolutely grotesque by all but a tiny handful of abortion zealots.
The Left went way too far in calling for abortion right up to birth, “celebrate” your abortion rather than it being safe, legal and rare, etc. That turned off a lot of people.
As usual, the economy will be the #1 issue and that’s been awful.

To be honest....an ever larger percentage of abortions are chemical rather than surgical. A pill or even certain medications for high blood pressure will cause an abortion.
As a practical matter, it will be nearly impossible to keep those pills from coming in even to states that outright ban abortion or which have restrictions on it. Those states are not likely to be any more successful in stopping that than they’ve been at stopping the flow of drugs.
So women who want an abortion are going to be able to travel to states that allow it or take a pill they will be able to obtain. Laws banning abortions are more of a statement of values by a state’s voters than they are a practical impediment to getting an abortion. I think most voters realize that.

I fully support the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade based on the twisted legal logic that was used originally.
You’re right, the overall number of abortions in the USA will likely not change and most people realize that.
When the decision was announced, the liberals yelled and screamed but the uproar has pretty much died down because the reality of situation is starting to set in, people can’t afford to live and are not concerned with abortion and have realized their lives aren’t going to change based on overturning Roe v. Wad.

White woketards get all giddy over the possibility of Blacks outnumbering Whites within a couple of more generations. When Colbert brought that up in one of his monologues his 99+% White audience had spontaneous orgasms. It probably would’ve happened by now if it weren’t for abortion.🙄😖

Biden Offers Abortion-Rights Lawyer as Judge After Alleged Deal Controversy
Jake Thomas - Yesterday 7:47 PM
Julie Rikelman, a prominent reproductive rights attorney, has been nominated for an appeals court seat by President Joe Biden, who had earlier come under fire for reportedly agreeing to appoint an anti-abortion lawyer to the federal judiciary.
The White House on Friday announced that Rikelman’s nomination will be included among eight of Biden’s judicial picks. Rikelman represented the Mississippi clinic that was at the center of the Supreme Court’s bombshell opinion nullifying national abortion rights. The nomination follows the unraveling of a reported deal by Biden to appoint a conservative jurist to federal judiciary, a move which stirred up the president’s base.

Nope - it is NOT popular, not like the politicians and media are desperately trying to gaslight people into thinking. There is no grassroots mass support. Just look at the puny turnout for the day of rage that wasn't after Roe v Wade was tossed onto the ash heap of history. The only ones it's fiercely popular with are the connected few who stand to gain revenue and power off of it.
