What’s the end result of the overturning of Roe v. Wade, after the dust settles, the number of abortions performed in the USA will probably not be that much different.
States that are strongly pro-life had regulated and closed abortion clinics in their states to the point where it was practically impossible to get an abortion in those states.
States that were strongly pro-choice have gone to the other extreme.
Once people realize the ability to get an abortion has not really changed that much now versus prior to this decision.
The end result will be abortion will become less and less important as a political issue.
To be honest....an ever larger percentage of abortions are chemical rather than surgical. A pill or even certain medications for high blood pressure will cause an abortion.
As a practical matter, it will be nearly impossible to keep those pills from coming in even to states that outright ban abortion or which have restrictions on it. Those states are not likely to be any more successful in stopping that than they’ve been at stopping the flow of drugs.
So women who want an abortion are going to be able to travel to states that allow it or take a pill they will be able to obtain. Laws banning abortions are more of a statement of values by a state’s voters than they are a practical impediment to getting an abortion. I think most voters realize that.
