This kid happened to be a great shot. But I can easily imagine myself wishing I had 5 more rounds in that situation - at that range advancing towards a guy with a rifle.

Alas 15 round magazines are illegal where I live.

My daughter told me that she figures that people have all heard about the cowardice of the cops at Uvalde, and are mad enough about that insanity. Perhaps that was running through Eli’s mind, and he wouldn’t have been able to live with himself by not trying.

Whenever I hear, “Hickok45 here,” I know it’s going to be another good video.

“Life is good.”

Part of why people are using pistols for shorter ranges is because the popularity of of semiauto rifles has risen quite a bit. But you’re right that proficiency with a pistol at longer distances your distances is a fine idea when you’re trying to fight your way back to your rifle.

the LEFTIST crazies will do everything they can to make his life hell

Well, they better do it from way past 40 yards.

Those aren't OEM Glock factory sights. Factory sights are teh suck. Not so much because the sight picture is strange (which it is) but more because they're made from plastic. Considering they're mounted on one of the world's toughest guns, plastic couldn't be more out of place than if they were made from papier mâché.

They're so bad that many Glock aficionados refer to them as "sight place holders" because their most important role is to keep the dust out of the dovetails cutouts until you can mount some proper sights.

If Eli was running factory sights, his shot was all the more remarkable.

Plus it's incredible that such a young man could remain so composed under so much stress.

Modern day “Wild Bill”.

It is said that Will Bill Hickok shot Davis Tutt during a gunfight in 1865 from about 75 yards with a cap and ball 1851 Colt Navy Revolver.

As a LEO pistol instructor with decades of experience. When I had much younger eyes I did a lot of longer range handgun shooting.

I once shot coyote at 50 yards with a 3.5 9mm double action semi auto. Another at 32 yards with a 2.5 in 357 mag.

Deer at longer ranges.

Can’t use open sights like I used to but with a dot hitting out there is very doable.

Yes, he is and he deserves credit for what he did. I mean a medal from the mayor, a parade down main street, a house, a new truck and a trust fund.

I agree. There is a GiveSendGo fund set up but $10 raised so far.

Yep.

Most of the Wild West gunmen were just killers, often shooting unarmed people or helpless people (Hardin).

Wild Bill was the real deal and their was a reason the bad guys were afraid of him.

Bullets go in fairly straight lines. They go a long ways away very fast. Finesse and discipline are the key.

The gun control package proposed by House Democrats identifies “high-capacity” magazines as holding 10 rounds or more.

Who needs a ten round clip? D'oh.

My philosophy: As your accuracy improves and you become more proficient, increase the distance from your target. A four inch group at 15 yards works for me.

This kid did good. If he did advance on the active shooter while returning fire, it appears he did on instinct what usually needs to be heavily trained into most folks in police and military duty -- he immediately attacked the ambush. Immediately. Completely interrupt the enemy's OODA loop -- doesn't give them time to assess and react, and it also doesn't give you time to think about what you are doing, either.

I've been shooting all my life, although nowhere as much a I would have liked, and I don't think I could have done that well. A few folks here mention young eyes -- yep, that counts for a lot. I do think I still would have gotten enough hits to neutralize the threat at that range, but that depends how much the perp was moving, which I haven't read anywhere. Less is more.

It is good and useful to evaluate these events, and put yourself in the same position. Always room for improvement. Again, this kid did good. Very good.
