VIDEO

You can take ordinary chicken thighs and turn them into the incredibly delicious gourmet delight of air fried pizza chicken. Very easy to prepare and best of all, in these inflationary times, the cost of this dish is low.

UNBELIEVABLE! While this video was processing, I checked online to see if more of the chicken thighs are available at Sam's Club where I had been getting them for just 98 cents per pound. In fact, I picked up two packs of them last Thursday which contained 10 chicken thighs each for under $5.50 per pack. It was the ONE THING still untouched by inflation... until today. When I checked a few minutes ago it had risen to $1.38 cents per pound. It is still an inexpensive dish to create but now the chicken thighs are about 40% more expensive thanx to Clueless Joe who goes begging for oil to the Saudis when it is abundantly available here. And the rising cost of oil due to reliance on foreign producers is a big reason why these chicken thighs just increased in price.

Squirl, rabbit and a host of game bird will work also.

Down here that would be iguana. The rising prices on all meats is making iguana look more tempting but I’m just not there yet. I know it will probably be okay but the gag reflex from the initial repulsion is something I would have to overcome.

I have a smaller analog air fryer but digital just can't be beat for accuracy and ease of use.

That smell must be the equivalent of microwave fish.

My dogs are on a bones and raw food diet and one of the staples of their diet is raw chicken.

I rely on Meijer and Sam’s for cheap chicken...not any more.
Last week Meijer raised the price from $7.29 for a 10 pound bag of quarters to $9.99, and Sam’s went from 96 cents a pound for a case of chicken thighs to $1.38 a pound.

I have Irish Wolfhounds. They eat a lot of chicken.

Thanks Brandon!

Does anyone think prices will ever return to their previous levels?

Here it went from 98 cents a pound to $1.38 a pound just since Thursday.

Only if the price of gasoline also goes down which won't be happening under Brandon.

Safeway here on the Oregon Coast does “deals” if you use their digital coupons. Bought a whole four-pound chicken for $.37/pound yesterday. Bought one-pound packages of butter for $1.97/pound a couple of weeks ago. This week they have Umpqua Ice Cream for $2.47 for 1.5 gallon.

Big fan of chicken thighs.

Will try this, thanks.

An aside, I love to grill chicken thighs (bone-in) with Rita Fajita and put on a balsamic vinegar and brown sugar glaze. Do it with pork chops as well.

Bought a whole four-pound chicken for $.37/pound yesterday.

Good deal. Doing some math here that would make it $1.48 for the entire chicken. dividing just the 2 breasts and the 2 thighs alone would make them just 36 cents each which is already LOWER than 98 cents per pound that Sam's club chicken thighs used to be until this past Thursday since I got a pack of 10 thighs for under $6 or over 50 cents each. And the breasts are more than that. And then you still have the drumsticks and the wings left over.

I might consider doing this in the future but I would quarter up the chickens and use the carcass for stock to make chicken gravy. Debone everything else except for the wings to air fry and make chicken sandwiches.

Looks great! I have some large chicken breasts that I’ll try. I may butterfly them. I have steak defrosted for tonight..but it’ll be pizza chicken from the air fryer tomorrow night. Note: The boneless, skinless breasts were $1.98/lb at Sam’s two months ago. They’re $2.98 as of three days ago.

RE: Your unscrewing the whole cap off the red pepper shaker... Reminded me of the hamburger steaks I was making last night. I’d dropped the rounded, just unfrozen, ball of hamburger into a stainless bowl (to add stuff to). First item was garlic salt. Unscrewed the whole plastic cap off the shaker and dumped half the bottle in! Luckily, I was able to pull the rounded ball of meat out, shake it off, empty & rinse the bowl...and I was good to go. Apparently, the remaining garlic salt was just the right amount.

You are still doing well. I’m paying over $3/pound at local butcher shops (west of Chicago).

Safeway limits you to only one per household, and since it’s a digital coupon, you can’t go back the next day and get the same price again. Still a good deal, and they do have varied digital coupons deal every week: eggs, butter, etc.
