Gillum claimed in a statement that he was innocent and that the charges were political, even though he is being charged by the Department of Justice, which is overseen by the Biden administration.
“The Indictment alleges that between 2016 and 2019, defendants Gillum and Lettman-Hicks conspired to commit wire fraud, by unlawfully soliciting and obtaining funds from various entities and individuals through false and fraudulent promises and representations that the funds would be used for a legitimate purpose,” the statement says. “The Indictment further alleges the defendants used third parties to divert a portion of those funds to a company owned by Lettman-Hicks, who then fraudulently provided the funds, disguised as payroll payments, to Gillum for his personal use.”
“Both defendants are charged with 19 counts of wire fraud,” the statement added. “Gillum is also charged with making false statements to agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”
If found guilty, Gillum faces up to 5 years in prison for making false statements, 20 years in prison for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and 20 years in prison per charge for wire fraud.
In 2020, as the coronavirus pandemic threw the U.S. into chaos, Gillum, who has children and was married, was found in a hotel room with a male escort and suspected baggies of crystal meth.
“Plastic baggies of suspected crystal meth, empty beer bottles and prescription pills are seen scattered among trash and soiled bedding in the shocking images,” the Daily Mail reported. “He was inside room 1107 with two more men, one of them a 30 year-old male escort named Travis Dyson, who was found naked and in the throes of a drug overdose.”

I read the entire “sealed” Indictment. What a racket. One can surmise that he is not the only one using politics to enrich himself. That kind of money made me think he might not have cared if he won or not; in fact, it might have been better if he hadn’t won because then he could keep the donor contributions gravy train going for his next campaign.
As an aside:
Gillum’s attorneys issued the following statement: “The government got it wrong today. The evidence in this case is clear and will show that Mr. Gillum is innocent of all charges. We look forward to putting this case to rest and giving Andrew and his family peace of mind once and for all.” Lettman-Hicks has not yet issued a public statement.
Now that’s a picture fit for celebrating pride month—a gay, black former politician who was a close personnel friend of the first black president and first black female vice-president, passed out on the ground naked and surrounded by other gay men with a crack pipe sticking out of his bum.

Perhaps, but back during the time when he was running for Governor, rumors were going around about him being under investigation, the media covered for him and dismissed any accusation against him.
The accusations that during his time as Mayor of Tallahassee he was basically open for business, you paid him, you got things done, evidently that has come back to bite him in the ass.

There are many reasons that the Brandon DOJ could be prosecuting Gillum.
IMHO, the most likely is that Gillum has no power and no possible political future so he has been picked to be the token democrat that they prosecute. The democrats and the lamestream media (same thing) can then point to him to show that the Brandon DOJ is being totally unbiased and non-political while they continue their witch hunt against Republicans.
Good theory - that’s makes sense. But I suspect it’s more insidious...
Corrine Brown was another Black Democrat who was in Congress in a gerrymandered district that ran from Jacksonville down to Orlando.
She was charged, convicted and sent to prison for basically using campaign cash for personal expenses.
She was guilty but her crimes pale in comparison to other Democrats, most notably Hillary Clinton who were doing the same thing but on a much grander scale.
I’ve always wondered why she was singled out and punished compared to the others.
The funny part now that she’s out of prison, she just filed to run for Congress again, this time in the 10th District, which is near Orlando, Val Demmings was the Representative but she’s running against Marco Rubio for Senate.
Imagine a convicted felon getting elected to congress. She can’t buy a gun but she could get elected and vote to keep others from buying a gun. Crazy.
The other complete democrat lunatic running for the same seat is Alan Grayson, who was in Congress a number of years back and he was radical as they come.
There was also Black democrat congresscritter William Jefferson from Louisiana, who was tried and convicted on multiple federal corruption charges by the Obama DOJ in 2009, but he was indicted in 2007 before Obama was elected.
He ran for re-election in 2008, after he was indicted and before he was tried, but got poured out in the election.
Wasn’t he the Congressman who had stacks of money in his freezer ???
