After it was revealed on Thursday that not only did police delay their response to sending tactical teams into the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Tex. amid a school shooting that left 19 children and two teachers dead but prevented parents from entering, the Wall Street Journal reported that one mother sprinted into the school to get her children, over objections from law enforcement.
Angeli Rose Gomez drove 40 miles to the school upon hearing of the shooting, and she arrived, said "The police were doing nothing. They were just standing outside the fence. They weren't going in there or running anywhere."

This article is a bit misleading. The harm could have been much worse had they rushed the perp.
According to Raul Ortiz, Chief of the US Border Patrol, the entire affair lasted a little over an hour. About thirty minutes after the shooting started it stopped and the perp barricaded himself into a classroom. The border patrol and the local cops had already engaged him. But upon arrival of the border patrol tactical team, search and rescue and other agents, along with the ones trained to do this from local police, they forced their way into the classroom he had barricaded himself in and shot him before he could choose to harm anyone else.
In this case, the plan worked as well as could be expected and the possible further harm being caused by trying to overpower the perp was avoided. Playbook.

Then it's the news conferences during events like this which are disturbing. 90% of the time they turn into back slap fest, where all they do is tell the cameras how great they all are, as they name every agency involved, thanking them profusely, regardless if there are bodies in every direction. All those running for office or seeking political appointments, the Chief, the mayor, DA's, FBI, DEA, ATF et al, all stand around in front of the cameras wanting face time as they each complement each other and the back slap fest goes on and on. And it's nearly the same in every new conference.
After Columbine the active shooter engagement rules were re-written. LE is now supposed to enter and engage an active shooter. I guess Uvalde never got the memo.
Cops getting between a parent trying to save their kids are disgusting.

Article says one father of a ten-year-old girl who was killed by the gunman was trying to go in and was tackled and pepper sprayed by LEOs.
Not second-guessing the decision because I don’t have all of the facts yet. But I wonder if such delays might have led to more deaths. People sometimes survive being shot, but the time it takes to get medical attention can make all the difference.

4 cops with shotguns could have easily rushed/charged the the suspect, killing him. I know all about LE protocol and rest of their bull sh*t, but in events like this, if they planned on saving kids, time, every minute is critical Every minute they waited potentially means more dead. And they had no idea if after shooting the kids he was going to then kill those still alive.

Funny how they can batter down doors and rush in when they are in a situation where the people inside are unarmed while wearing their very expensive "tactical gear" but give them a case where they might be hurt they really don't have any confidence in it.
