According to a report released Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the number of guns manufactured has steadily increased over the past 20 years.
The report released Tuesday by the Bureau tracked the manufacture and importation of firearms since 1986. The manufacture of guns remained steady from 1986 to 2000.
Each of these years showed that around three million firearms were produced. In the same period, the importation of firearms rose from 701,000 to 1,096,782.
After 2001, the gun industry saw an explosion in the manufacturing and importation of firearms.

Welcome to FreeRepublic.
I subscribe to AmmoLand. One of the few things I do subscribe to.
FreeRepublic being #1.
Production might be up overall, but certain models are still in short supply. The venerable Ruger Redhawk, for instance.
Waiting over a hear now for the paperwork to go through on my suppressor.
A LOT of models aren’t available - certain types are flooding, but huge variety are just impossible. Decent shotguns are thin as paper.
Most ammunition and components are still impossible to find - 30-30 Win is nearly impossible to find outside of near-scalper mail-order rates.
Have you checked Ammoseek?
Lots of reasonablely priced 30-30.
Shipping drives up the cost, but you save time and gas by not driving, to get it.
I believe it. Especially since Covid hit. Approximately 40 million firearms were sold in the last couple of years. If everyone wanted just 100 rounds of ammo, that 4 BILLION rounds. Add to that normal demand and you have probably a 400 billion round demand.
And people wonder why they can’t find ammo, powder and primers.
BTW, the demand has tapered off in the last month.
The gun industry should present an annual award to the politician who single-handedly increases gun sales the most in a given year. For me that was Chuck Schumer, for others Joe Biden, Maxine Watters, Laurie Lightfoot, etc., etc., etc.
Good stuff, Absolutely!

Good solid choice!
This is all Bush’s fault./s
Curse you, White Supremacists!/s
What models and makes went up the most?
Can you call BLM a “politician”? They sure inspired more gun sales.
The Clinton Assault Weapons Ban expired in 2004 and a LOT of AR-15’s have been manufactured and sold since then. That awful piece of legislation was a wake up call to Americans that, yes, the Democrats actually are trying to take away your guns. Before that it was mostly just rhetoric but the AWB jolted a lot of Americans back to reality on Democrats and guns.
It’s getting so that there may be some profit in dredging lakes and ponds because of all the boating accidents.
Great....
