Many liberals who call themselves journalists, inspired by Harvard's Nieman Lab, are now publicly calling for ditching objectivity in their profession in favor of what they call "solidarity for social justice" as their goal. Not only are many making no attempt to hide their disdain for objectivity, they are loudly urging it. Among them is Washington Post Margaret Sullivan who is not shy about expressing her extreme antipathy towards political diversity.
Therefore when she wrote on Saturday that the New York Times managing editor, Joe Kahn, would succeed Dean Baquet as executive editor of that alleged national treasure in June, her top concern was whether he would allow diversity of opinion in "Joe Kahn can be a great New York Times editor."

The big shtick among liberal journalists now is to ditch even the pretense of objectivity under what they call "Solidarity for social justice." The aim isn't providing factual reporting but rather to push various causes. This explains the media pushing Trump-Russia collusion even though the facts never backed that up.

Back in the day, citizens in a free republic benefitted most from when the news was most objective.
Subjects in a dictatorship don’t need an objective press. In fact, in such an “our democracy” (actually, totalitarian oligarchy), an objective press is not wanted at all by the oligarchy, or their Democratic party minions.
The flip side of the coin is this: When the news ceases to be objective, or even of trying to be objective, there’s absolutely no reason to keep patronizing it and reading or watching it, or listening to it in the case of NPR. Why would anyone want to buy a Washington Post or New York Times newspaper since they are not even pretending to be objective any longer, let alone actually being objective?

You believe that reality is something objective, external, existing in its own right. You also believe that the nature of reality is self-evident. When you delude yourself into thinking that you see something, you assume that everyone else sees the same thing as you. But I tell you, Winston, that reality is not external. Reality exists in the human mind, and nowhere else. Not in the individual mind, which can make mistakes, and in any case soon perishes: only in the mind of the Party, which is collective and immortal. Whatever the Party holds to be the truth, is truth. It is impossible to see reality except by looking through the eyes of the Party.George Orwell, 1984

Why would anyone want to buy a Washington Post or New York Times newspaper since they are not even pretending to be objective any longer, let alone actually being objective? As it is, the people who subscribe to those rags now would not have it any other way. They stopped believing in objectivity a while ago and want to exist in an echo chamber of their pretensions, it's what they're paying for!
Which makes the twitter buyout more important - now that the market for real news has been abandoned, maybe twitter under Musk can help supply it. can't be any worse.

Objectivity? They weren’t objective even when I was a kid back in the 70s.
