On Thursday, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), issued an open letter ruling that a type of gun trigger, known as a forced-reset trigger, will be considered a machinegun despite functioning differently than a true automatic machine gun.
The letter, dated March 22 and widely published Thursday, March 24, states the agency “recently examined devices commonly known as ‘forced reset triggers’ (FRTs) and has determined that some of them are ‘firearms’ and ‘machineguns’ as defined in the National Firearms Act (NFA), and ‘machineguns’ as defined in the Gun Control Act (GCA).”
A conventional trigger is one that, once fired, requires its user to release it before it can reset and be depressed to fire again. A forced-reset trigger is one that, once fired, automatically resets the trigger to the unfired position, whether it has been released or not. This action allows a user to more quickly fire subsequent rounds, but each shot still requires the trigger to be pulled.
In contrast, a true fully automatic machine gun requires only one trigger pull and will repeatedly fire bullets until the trigger is released or the gun runs out of ammunition.
“Unlike traditional triggers and binary triggers (sometimes referred to generally as ‘FRTs’), the subject FRTs do not require shooters to pull and then subsequently release the trigger to fire a second shot,” the ATF letter states. “Instead, these FRTs utilize the firing cycle to eliminate the need for the shooter to release the trigger before a second shot is fired. By contrast, some after-market triggers have similar components but also incorporate a disconnector or similar feature to ensure that the trigger must be released before a second shot may be fired and may not be machineguns.”

I'm sure belt loops will soon be banned too.

The only practical use of “machine guns” is on Hollywood movie sets.
Defund the ATF.

“I’m sure belt loops will soon be banned too.”
Don’t forget thumbs and forefingers.
I’m wondering why God attached a human to a trigger finger.
There should be no infringement on automatic weapons at all. The Second Amendment says "shall not be infringed."
A binary trigger does NOT act the same as an FRT. Not even close.
A binary trigger fires once when pulled, and fires a second time when released by the shooter. So if the shooter pulls the trigger and maintains constant pressure, only one shot is fired. The next shot only fires when the shooter releases pressure on the trigger.
In an FRT the shooter applies constant pressure to the trigger, and as long as constant pressure is maintained, the gun will continue to shoot. Sure, the trigger and the shooter's finger moves forward and back for each shot, but the shooter is not releasing the trigger then applying pressure again. The trigger is forced forwards against the shooters constant pull pressure, and allowed to move back again after the bolt is in battery.
The FRT behaves exactly like any other full auto trigger, only the FRT has severe trigger slap.

okay, and Lia Thomas is a woman, too...I don’t get the logic, calling a trigger a machine gun, but....what do I know.....
So Glocks are now machine guns. Alot of striker fired hand guns have this feature.Alot of cops use these. Will cops have to get a class 3 licence?
It's in the legal definition of "machine gun" as defined in 26 U.S. Code § 5845 - Definitions:
For the purpose of this chapter—(b)Machinegun
The term “machinegun” means any weapon which shoots, is designed to shoot, or can be readily restored to shoot, automatically more than one shot, without manual reloading, by a single function of the trigger. The term shall also include the frame or receiver of any such weapon, any part designed and intended solely and exclusively, or combination of parts designed and intended, for use in converting a weapon into a machinegun, and any combination of parts from which a machinegun can be assembled if such parts are in the possession or under the control of a person.
Can someone give me a example of a gun that has this type of triggers.
This is making law by an out of control regulatory agency.
The ATF has held that these triggers were in compliance when designed and first sold.
Then, the ATF tried to order manufacturers to stop sale. But most did not and pushed back using for ATF personnel for testimony.
So, ATF went ahead and published the rule anyway.
This is abusive and will end up in the courts.
And what feature would that be? As a Glock owner myself, I'd like to know how to activate the Forced Reset mode on my Glock 26 or my wife's Glock 42.
That means what?
Using ATF’s & the gun control lobby’s logic, we should all be restricted to flint muskets which, ironically, were military-grade weaponry when the Constitution was signed.
Sounds like the government is beginning to fear the citizens.
That!
It should be a Capital Crime to suggest such, Unelected Bureaucrat, or not.
Do you even Glock bro?
If ever there was a alphabet agency ripe to be cancelled, it’s this one. Even other agencies don’t like em.
