When is Violence the Answer?
In my adult life (since 1983) I’ve heard so many people both in and out of government say, “Violence is not the answer.” Thus, my question is: WHEN is violence the answer?
Violence WAS the answer when the British trampled on our rights which resulted in the Revolutionary War and our independence. It was the answer again when the British pressed Americans into service aboard their ships and resulted in the War of 1812. Violence was the answer when the Barbary States enslaved Americans. It was the answer when Santa Ana denied Texans their rights. There are many other situations where it was the answer.
But when is violence the answer for we private citizens? Of course, it is the answer when defending your home against an intruder and defending ourselves and loved ones against crime.
Lately it seems that far too many in America seem to believe that government has a monopoly on violence. Government tramples our rights, unlawfully takes our possessions, unlawfully detains us and a plethora of other unlawful acts. And what do we do? Most people bitch and moan but do NOTHING. Some may file a lawsuit but that usually goes nowhere when the entity you are fighting is in charge of the due process.
Now I’d like for you all to think about this; what is YOUR personal “red line” where violence IS the answer towards our government? As for me, I don’t have a “red line” as much as I have a “red zone.” There are a few areas in which I truly believe that violence IS the answer against tyranny.
It’s become blatantly obvious that high officials are immune from prosecution. And in the extremely rare case that they are tried and convicted they are either let off with a stern warning or at most sent to a prison which is more country club than prison.
I am sure after you’ve murdered a few government officials, the police will let you know when you’ve crossed the line.
I believe it is ONLY ever in hindsight.. And judged by the results..
Of course we had to over throw King George!
Of course we had to Stop Hitler!
We didn’t NEED to go into Vietnam
We didn’t need to go into Afghanistan
The old adage “history is written by the victors” alpplies
For me it’s about self defense. Is a rogue government agent violating my rights under the color of law? If the answer is yes, physical self defense kicks in.
A good example of that would be if a modern highwayman (traffic cop) insists on searching my car and finds a large sum of money and decides he needs to keep it via civil asset forfeiture because “It could be used for, or will be used for, illegal drugs”. That’s attempted robbery. I would try to act accordingly. But my solution is to not carry large sums of cash in my car. I realized almost two decades ago that the US is not a Norman Rockwell painting. And adjusted my life accordingly.
It never ends well.
“When Is Violence The Answer?”
It’s hard to tell but I like to think we’d know it when we see it.
Violence solves problems.
If my ex read FR she’d say it depends on the time of the month. LOL
Almost everything else you can walk away from. Or back away from.
I live in a country where our last president was incredible. The elections came and the leftist president won. This happened when suddenly tens of thousands of votes were unloaded simultaneously throughout the entire country at a specific time in the early morning. This time was after poll workers were told to leave for the night.
Each and every one of the ballots were for the candidate that no one actually voted for.
We have a right - an actual constitutional right to protest peacefully. On January 6th - after the election so fraudulent even the false presidents SUPPORTERS said it was fake. A popular magazine wrote an article about it, taking partial credit for the cheat. But on January 6th patriots surrounded our Capitol building holding signs and demanding fair elections.
The capitol police opened the doors and let them in to wander the halls and chant and hold signs. The office to our greatest elite ruler happened to be open and a man from Arkansas wearing a viking helmet sat in her chair and put his feet up on it.
You see where I’m going. And you should also know by now what my answer is for your question.
“Violence solves problems”
All I have to say is something dumb. But it’s something I need to say just to show support.
“True.”
Elementary school teachers used to say to us kids over and over: violence is never the answer. Of course that is nonsense.
If wolves attack a moose, the moose will kick. Forest rangers report seeing crushed skulls of wolves that picked on the wrong moose.
If someone breaks into your house and grabs a kitchen knife you shotgun him. Common sense.
Or you can also do what they are doing in New Orleans. Government has a vaccine mandate to go into restaurants and bars (or they tried to have one). One young guy who went there just presented a driver’s license and that was good enough for the bouncer. What, does the bouncer want the business he works for to go under because most of the customers stopped going? Of course not.
If enough people simply ignored unlawful or unethical governmental orders, as the bouncer did, then controlling the people would be like herding cats.
I wonder...How many people who want to punish Russia for their violence support the US following the Monroe Doctrine? Wikipedia lists numerous times that the US has intervened in South and Central America (under Monroe Doctrine). How did the US react when missiles were stationed in Cuba?
War is rarely justified. But the bankers love it.
Most Patriots red line would be a 2nd amendment infringement, ie FMCDH, however it would seem until then anything goes, perhaps even the arrest of President Trump by a kangaroo court.

My grandson got into a fight at school when another kid smacked him and wanted to fight. The school wanted to put him in “In School Suspension” but my daughter picked him up and took him out for ice cream.
“Despite what your momma told you, violence does solve problems” Chris Kyle
I’m entertaining a definition/truism:
“Sanctions” are combat debt: consequences acquired now, with requisite violence due later - with interest.
Stems from the observation that with Russia largely cut off from world economy via “non-violent sanctions”, they will commence violence later in the form for further conquests to forcibly acquire resources.
Thoughts?
Violence is appropriate whenever the following condition is met:
The status quo is unacceptable.
Consider the following words from the Declaration of Independence, which are just as true today as when written:
“But when a long Train of Abuses and Usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object, evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their Right, it is their Duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future Security.”
When the drafters said “throw off”, they didn’t mean it metaphorically - they were talking about violence.
“WHEN is violence the answer?”
In today’s world, when all other possibilities have failed. The balance of loss of lives is incredibly different than in the times in history mentioned. The invention of NBC and guided bombs creates a different definition of when as we are now talking about planet killing.
So losing one’s cool and starting WW III or direct attacks upon populations with deadly weapons is not a real answer to the use of violence. And all it is going to do in this situation now is cause retaliation at the level we are working from. That used to be called a no win scenario. And there is no way a country like Russia can be destroyed all at one time and they will launch as they go down for the third time. Like I said, no win. And you’re better off vaporizing in the first wave. Less pain and suffering from radiation poisoning, dehydration, or starvation over time.
