Here’s an interesting Twitter thread from someone named Riho Terras, a member of the European Parliament, posted a few hours ago. Obviously we’re not in any position to vouch for the accuracy of this thread (and some of it seems dubious), but pass it along in the interest of broad coverage:
THREAD 1/7 Intel from a Ukrainian officer about a meeting in Putin’s lair in Urals. Oligarchs convened there so no one would flee. Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days.
Russians didn’t have a tactical plan. The war costs about $20 bln/day. There are rockets for 3-4 days at most, they use them sparingly. They lack weapons, the Tula and 2 Rotenberg plants can’t physically fulfil the orders for weapons. Rifles and ammo are the most they can do.
The next Russian weapons can be produced in 3-4 months – if even that. They have no raw materials. What was previously supplied mainly from Slovenia, Finland and Germany is now cut off.
If Ukraine manages to hold the Russians off for 10 days, then the Russians will have to enter negotiations. Because they have no money, weapons, or resources. Nevertheless, they are indifferent about the sanctions.
Alpha Spec Ops have been near Kyiv since the 18th February. The goal was to take Kyiv and instal a puppet regime. They are preparing provocations against innocent civilians – women and children – to sow panic. This is their trump card.
Russia’s whole plan relies on panic – that the civilians and armed forces surrender and Zelensky flees. They expect Kharkiv to surrender first so the other cities would follow suit to avoid bloodshed. The Russians are in shock of the fierce resistance they have encountered.

What’s the blast radius of a thermobaric bomb? Ukraine is the size of Texas. They can absorb more than Putin can dish out. Guaranteed. We’re not talking about Estonia here.
Bush said that ‘Major Combat Operations have ended.’
He went on in that speech to emphasize that there was ‘difficult work to do in Iraq.’
A lot more was said on the Deck of the U.S. S. Abraham Lincoln.
I am already sick of all the bullcrap surrounding this. Nobody knows what is going on there because the propaganda is so thick.
[Regardless of what one thinks about Ukraine vs. Russia, it’s kind of shortsighted to say that Russia is “bogged down” or whatever after, what, two days?
Remember that it took the USA 35 days to take Baghdad in Desert Storm I, with a multinational coalition, against a foe that was definitely not a peer power, or even near-peer.]
There is no force on earth as capable of moving logistical support forward as quickly as our military. Russia sucks at moving supplies quickly.
I saw a video of Ukrainians soldiers literally laughing at the old soviet junk BMP that they captured today. They said it was worse quality than what they had. Ha ha. Another video of Russians stealing food like it was after Katrina. Gut busting stuff and humiliating for Russia. Putinit Russia will be the laughing stock of the world shortly. Ukraine has won the info war, too.
My policy now is to wait for the book.
Good idea. And let the facts on the ground speak for themselves. Putin does not control the eastern cities that are basically Russia nor Kyiv. Just watch where the boots on the ground are, IMO.
But I was referring to Stephen Hayward, who was writing for Weekly Standard at the time, not GWB. While I think our entry into that war was a mistake, GWB at least had a more realistic perspective on it than the neocons who said the Iraqis would throw flowers at US armed forces as liberators.
To be fair, why didn't they mobilize a month ago? I thought Putin was bluffing and it was just a bunch of maneuvers.
Kyiv is 50 miles from the border. Eastern cities even less. Invading troops on alert for months. Yet still nearly all Ukrainian cities are in government hands. Putinists can deny realty of they want but the facts speak for themselves.
BREAKING: Ukraine’s president says anyone who wants to help defend Ukraine can go to the country and will be given arms

Doesn’t sound like they are winning.
We neutralized the Regime Army in IRQ in short order. The mission of the US military was to so do. We did it. What brought about the insurgency/counterinsurgency was the lack of a follow-on plan by State. They have no governance plan; their liaison spoke of having months of intense combat and then mop-up time to devise a plan and institute it. I told him he was about three months late to the party. I worked in CENTCOM at the outset of the operation. Many of us scratched our heads....
ORHA and follow-on governance activities failed to restore civil government and law and order. The US Army and Marine Corps are not police, we break things and hurt people really well. In the end, even though it was a messy deal, we eliminated 25-40k foreign and IRQ bad guys. The effects lasted for a long while.
My regrets. Thanks for clarifying.
Three days? How long did it take us to conquer Iraq? Afghanistan?
Putin is going to starve them. Just sit outside and let them starve. No meds, no food, no water, no electricity, no comms.... or he could go Genghis Kahn or use the Roman Carthage solution.
[To be fair, why didn’t they mobilize a month ago? I thought Putin was bluffing and it was just a bunch of maneuvers. ]
Yeah supposedly they are not dead, they actually surrendered. And you have that lil punk a@@ Kinzinger posting photos of people from a year ago and claiming its from now
Yes.
Yeah when I Heard that I wondered wait, if they are kicking so much Russian tail how come he is begging for help
Why didn’t they? Could they not do it? Don’t their missiles and Sf find the switches?
My son has friends in both Odessa and Dnipro and they are all online and using cell phones- why did not the RU folks take all of that down? A force doesn’t need TAC COMs if cell phones work well....
Either the RU folks didn’t think of it, or they couldn’t do it.
Good for the UR forces and people.
10 days. By then either the RU will be victorious or defeated and lose the will/ability to reinforce and the political situation in RU will not be happy....
Given the stiff stance of UR forces and citizens, they may be able to hold....and they are finding resupply and effective support (Spain is sending Forces).
My boy was an Officer and very much involved in that ‘Field Problem’ of taking Baghdad. I do get a little touchy about the subject at times. It was extremely trying for us here and my recovery from the stress has been not forgotten.
Thank You for doing your job. I truly believe that each ‘mission’ is dependent upon other Duties being properly accomplished. Without going on, I will say that we are all healthy and long beyond those events for the most part.
