HAS PUTIN BOTCHED THE WAR?
Powerline ^ | February 24,2022 | STEVEN HAYWARD

Here’s an interesting Twitter thread from someone named Riho Terras, a member of the European Parliament, posted a few hours ago. Obviously we’re not in any position to vouch for the accuracy of this thread (and some of it seems dubious), but pass it along in the interest of broad coverage:

THREAD 1/7 Intel from a Ukrainian officer about a meeting in Putin’s lair in Urals. Oligarchs convened there so no one would flee. Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days.

Russians didn’t have a tactical plan. The war costs about $20 bln/day. There are rockets for 3-4 days at most, they use them sparingly. They lack weapons, the Tula and 2 Rotenberg plants can’t physically fulfil the orders for weapons. Rifles and ammo are the most they can do.

The next Russian weapons can be produced in 3-4 months – if even that. They have no raw materials. What was previously supplied mainly from Slovenia, Finland and Germany is now cut off.

If Ukraine manages to hold the Russians off for 10 days, then the Russians will have to enter negotiations. Because they have no money, weapons, or resources. Nevertheless, they are indifferent about the sanctions.

Alpha Spec Ops have been near Kyiv since the 18th February. The goal was to take Kyiv and instal a puppet regime. They are preparing provocations against innocent civilians – women and children – to sow panic. This is their trump card.

Russia’s whole plan relies on panic – that the civilians and armed forces surrender and Zelensky flees. They expect Kharkiv to surrender first so the other cities would follow suit to avoid bloodshed. The Russians are in shock of the fierce resistance they have encountered.

At least at the beginning of the war, the German General Staff was first rate. But, Hitler distrusted them and on many occasions overruled them. Some students of military history say Hitler's blunders shortened the war by at least a year if not more.

I read somewhere there was a top secret British intel meeting where they seriously discussed if they should kill Hitler if the opportunity ever came up because his blunders were helping us.

Knowing the Russians, the supplies were already stolen and traded for alcohol before the trucks were halfway to their destinations.

There is hilarious video of a drunk Belarussian soldier staggering around in the forest today and being questioned by a Ukrainian. And also of Russians stealing food like it was Katrina.

They say the plan is always the first casualty

Russian military hardware is shit. It seems their precision cruise missiles are mere dumb bombs that some oligarch screwed over the military with.

That’s a good point. Putin has massively exposed his military and there will be a gold mine of intel coming out of this. There are NATO planes flying over the Baltics and scooping up everything. The Russian army is exposed like no time in history. Well, since WW2 anyway.

A battalion of Chechen forces were Chechens were spotted hiding within dense forests outside Kyiv but are now believed to have started to close in on embattled Kyiv city.

These tough fighters were recruited by Putin’s commanders to form militia units and enforce Moscow’s will in Chechnya after troops became bogged down in conflict.

The Russian pack a heavy haymaker. However, their weakness is their sustainment capability and their lack of a robust economic engine.

They cannot sustain a long campaign. This is in every simulation we run. They must cause as much damage and destruction as they can and not get bogged down because they cannot sustain their forces in a quagmire.

They’re deadly in a battle, but weak in war.

There’s something to be said about defending the homeland. Russia will fail here.

Yup. Especially when the invader tells you many times your nation is illegitimate and he will wipe your off the face of the earth. Any people hearing that would fight like wildcats for there land and families. ESPECIALLY a people with a history like Ukraine. This is Gadhafi level arrogance from Putin. I’m suspecting a similar end for him at this point.

I have quit following the news from the Ukraine. It’s not accurate nor the least bit relevant for predicting the outcome. We were led to believe the Trudeau regime was on its last legs, then it’s over and they’ve locked everybody up. My policy now is to wait for the book.

Looking back on history, Russia has never been very successful at war. Aside from World War Two, where they benefitted from a second front and still lost millions of troops, their record is very poor.

Agreed. China has spent a lot of money upgrading their forces but they don’t have much experience using it in actual combat against an enemy. This is especially true of their navy where they have a lot of shiny new ships but virtually no naval history for centuries.

Our military is weakened but still has a lot of history and experience to draw from. Our greatest weakness comes from the leadership. Too many political officers with the wrong agenda who want to please a civilian leadership that has no clue what to do with the military beyond implement their social ideas.

“Putin is furious, he thought that the whole war would be easy and everything would be done in 1-4 days.”

Nobody on the planet believed such.

This is disinformation. Fake.

The US took several weeks to depose Saddam in a smaller country...and with a larger army.

After weeks of air bombardment.

And that one was as clean and overwhelming as it gets.

40 million PO’d Ukrainians are taking care of business and now have access to unlimited ammo and high quality NATO gear. Putin has lost. It will take a while to play out, obviously.

Putin wasn’t too bad. He was stable until now, obviously. I think he was trying to take advantage because of Joe Biden’s weakness and he has judged that the moment is now or never. So he is going for broke. The problem is that when Putin’s gone, who will replace him? Boris Yeltsin was a joke. They need a strongman to rule that nation with thousands of nukes.

Putin is a thorn to the Clinton/Obama/Biden axis of evil. For that alone, I hope he is around to continue being a thorn.

If you really care about President Trump you will drop that thought. The world changed today. Putin is an anchor around MAGA and President Trump. Let’s not let it drag him down
