Court Filing Started A Furor In Right-Wing Outlets, But Their Narrative Is Off Track (Durham)

The conservative media also skewed what the filing said. For example, Mr. Durham’s filing never used the word “infiltrate.” And it never claimed that Mr. Joffe’s company was being paid by the Clinton campaign.

Most important, contrary to the reporting, the filing never said the White House data that came under scrutiny was from the Trump era. According to lawyers for David Dagon, a Georgia Institute of Technology data scientist who helped develop the Yota analysis, the data — so-called DNS logs, which are records of when computers or smartphones have prepared to communicate with servers over the internet — came from Barack Obama’s presidency.

“What Trump and some news outlets are saying is wrong,” said Jody Westby and Mark Rasch, both lawyers for Mr. Dagon. “The cybersecurity researchers were investigating malware in the White House, not spying on the Trump campaign, and to our knowledge all of the data they used was nonprivate DNS data from before Trump took office.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for Mr. Joffe said that “contrary to the allegations in this recent filing,” he was apolitical, did not work for any political party, and had lawful access under a contract to work with others to analyze DNS data — including from the White House — for the purpose of hunting for security breaches or threats.

After Russians hacked networks for the White House and Democrats in 2015 and 2016, it went on, the cybersecurity researchers were “deeply concerned” to find data suggesting Russian-made YotaPhones were in proximity to the Trump campaign and the White House, so “prepared a report of their findings, which was subsequently shared with the C.I.A.”

A spokesman for Mr. Durham declined to comment.

Mr. Durham was assigned by the attorney general at the time, William P. Barr, to scour the Russia investigation for wrongdoing in May 2019 as Mr. Trump escalated his claims that he was the victim of a “deep state” conspiracy. But after nearly three years, he has not developed any cases against high-level government officials.

Instead, Mr. Durham has developed two cases against people associated with outside efforts to understand Russia’s election interference that put forward unproven, and sometimes thin or subsequently disproved, suspicions about purported links to Mr. Trump or his campaign.

Thank you. Perfect attitude for today. I wretch at all the chicken-little hand wringers who don’t have an ounce of fight or a sliver of a backbone who have laid down at their ‘puter keyboards waiting to be assimilated deeper into the gubmint borg.

Arm-up, carry on!

Another misleading article from the NYT, evidently designed to deflect and downplay the latest Durham filing and what it means.

True, the filing does not state that the Clinton campaign paid for the data mining. But it does say that the supposedly apolitical Joffe (CEO of Neustar) was trying to please “certain VIPs” at the Perkins Coie law firm and the Clinton campaign. This is a likely reference to scumbag and dirty tricks specialist Marc Elias.

One wonders why Joffe was trying so hard to please the Clinton people, even to the point of misusing his access to DNS data to pass it to researchers at the University of Georgia with instructions to establish an “inference” or “narrative” tying then-candidate Trump to Russia..

It may be that in this particular case wiretaps were not set up to specifically spy on Trump, but Joffe abused his authority by using data gathered to search for Russian malware (a completely different purpose) to create a narrative to support the false collusion narrative. And all to please Sussman and Elias, both of whom worked for (as in: did stuff for and got money from) the Clinton campaign. So again, Clinton did not pay for the illicit research directly, but did pay the salaries of the two creeps who solicited it.

This is classic obfuscation of the facts, and the NYT and NPR (which YOU pay for and is using the exact same talking points) are trying to play it down. Bottom line: they are very worried.

The lawyer from Perkins Coie was part of the Clinton campaign. Just because court filings don’t say spied doesn’t mean that what was described wasn’t spying. It was. People still carry water for Clinton

More disinformation. The media doesn’t report the story but it does report the supposed rebuttal of the story.

Your days on this earth are numbered. We are coming for you. No amount of propaganda is going to save you. Investigations are going to be held and the proof for all the world to see. You are going to pay the ultimate price for your treachery.

I am sorry, but I have been reading posts like this on FR since the Clinton Administration.....about Gore, then about Hillary, then about Obama....

I believe these people will never be held to account by anyone other than the Almighty Himself.

This is taken from the NYT, and it is fake news. It’s the narrative they are pushing, because it sounds plausible. Durham is not that incompetent, it was during the Trump years.

Thanks for that info on DNS. It seemed to me this article, like so much MSM, is based on people ONLY being attracted to and reading the headline

What stuck out to me

After Russians hacked networks for the White House and Democrats in 2015 and 2016, it went on, the cybersecurity researchers were “deeply concerned” to find data suggesting Russian-made YotaPhones

There's a lot of hype, but in fact, no one knows, or is publicly saying, WHO hacked DNC servers. The FBI never looked at the servers. They rec'd selected "copies" from Crowstrike, but that's all.

Its why this article is simply designed to confuse

So Durham and his attorneys and investigators can’t read a calendar and are prosecuting innocent people for acts committed under a contract with Obama’s WH to look for Russian hacks???

I thought Durham was alledging that the spying in Trump’s WH occurred because they had access because of the prior contract and were able to use that access—but reported they couldn’t find anything.????
