Court Filing Started A Furor In Right-Wing Outlets, But Their Narrative Is Off Track (Durham)

The conservative media also skewed what the filing said. For example, Mr. Durham’s filing never used the word “infiltrate.” And it never claimed that Mr. Joffe’s company was being paid by the Clinton campaign.

Most important, contrary to the reporting, the filing never said the White House data that came under scrutiny was from the Trump era. According to lawyers for David Dagon, a Georgia Institute of Technology data scientist who helped develop the Yota analysis, the data — so-called DNS logs, which are records of when computers or smartphones have prepared to communicate with servers over the internet — came from Barack Obama’s presidency.

“What Trump and some news outlets are saying is wrong,” said Jody Westby and Mark Rasch, both lawyers for Mr. Dagon. “The cybersecurity researchers were investigating malware in the White House, not spying on the Trump campaign, and to our knowledge all of the data they used was nonprivate DNS data from before Trump took office.”

In a statement, a spokesperson for Mr. Joffe said that “contrary to the allegations in this recent filing,” he was apolitical, did not work for any political party, and had lawful access under a contract to work with others to analyze DNS data — including from the White House — for the purpose of hunting for security breaches or threats.

After Russians hacked networks for the White House and Democrats in 2015 and 2016, it went on, the cybersecurity researchers were “deeply concerned” to find data suggesting Russian-made YotaPhones were in proximity to the Trump campaign and the White House, so “prepared a report of their findings, which was subsequently shared with the C.I.A.”

A spokesman for Mr. Durham declined to comment.

Mr. Durham was assigned by the attorney general at the time, William P. Barr, to scour the Russia investigation for wrongdoing in May 2019 as Mr. Trump escalated his claims that he was the victim of a “deep state” conspiracy. But after nearly three years, he has not developed any cases against high-level government officials.

Instead, Mr. Durham has developed two cases against people associated with outside efforts to understand Russia’s election interference that put forward unproven, and sometimes thin or subsequently disproved, suspicions about purported links to Mr. Trump or his campaign.

President Trump was president at the time.

data suggesting Russian-made YotaPhones were in proximity to the Trump campaign

This is a non-sequitur. DNS data is literally the Internet's phone book. It indicates that someone looked for an endpoint by name, and the DNS server responded with that server's IP address. There's ZERO correlation to the calling machine's identity except that it made that call. It's impossible to know that the DNS request came from a phone. It's trivially easy to spoof endpoint data through the use of TOR or VPNs or any number of other localized masking techniques.

This article is complete bullshit.

Who ever wrote this propaganda piece is a Hilary lick spittle.

I have this to say to them: Your days on this earth are numbered. We are coming for you. No amount of propaganda is going to save you. Investigations are going to be held and the proof for all the world to see. You are going to pay the ultimate price for your treachery.

Correct. This is the song of the mockingbirds reading of the same lame sheet music, and at their most obnoxious and out of tune with reality.

There are two new wrinkles related to Rodney Joffe and his Trump spying information technology company Neustar.

The Vatican paid around $2 million to Neustar in Australia a couple years ago. The Australian government is actually in court in Italy demanding to know what this was all about. It appears to be related to a child sex case involving a very senior religious executive.

In addition, Judicial Watch has obtained an email from Joffe that appears to request surveillance on Trump associate Steve Bannon.

Seems a bit misdirectional to me. It plants the assumption that the loss of data from the DNC server was a Russian hack when it was a simple download that the Dems did not want to admit, killing the fellow who downloaded it. They preferred their tale that the Russsians hacked it in collusion with DJT.

Finally the news media is getting around to m3ntioning the Durham report. But apparently it’s only to lie some more and jump to the defense of Hillary Clinton and company. Note the angle of this story, how the Durham report ignited a “furor”among right wing outlets and how their “narrative” is “skewed” and “off track”.

If the new york times was a real newspaper with real journalists, one would think they’d be doing and printing stories about the Durham report itself and what’s right with it and delving into the what, where, why, and how behind the report. Not what the reactions of the right wing media are and how wrong is it. Did they ever do that when covering Watergate? They didn’t really bother.
