(VANITY) TOURNAMENT OF CHART-TOPPERS II ('50S) - ROUND 2
ROUND 2 of the greatest hits of the '50s begins!
DUE DATE: Sunday, Jan 30 @ 12:00 pm (Eastern)
Round 2 is the start of the play-off tournament style. It starts with 32 pairs of the best 64 songs as chosen by YOU, from Rounds 1A and 1B.
Round 1A and 1B:
The vote is simply: which of each pair is better? No answer, no vote.
Please vote on as MANY pairs as possible! However, it is not required in order to “complete” the survey. You can do as many pairs as you like.
See pairs in my next reply post.
The survey is at 1950s survey - top 64
My YouTube playlist is 1950s play list top 64
(This is a temporary ping list, so don’t worry it won’t last forever!)
Here are the pairs. Please see start of thread for Round 2 rules!
Again, the survey is here: 1950s survey – top 64
****PLEASE NOTE: Once you start the survey, you must finish it or it will not let you complete (earlier, I mistakenly thought the free version lets you continue later). Not all pairs must be picked, however. If you have a problem with this, and did not finish, PM me and I can search for your IP address and delete your attempt so you can start again.
My YouTube Playlist covers ALL these songs but is really in order of year/rank, not paired up as these below.

Most were an easy choice, but a few were tougher.
The URL is wrong. I keep getting a 404 message from both links
No, go to the original post/#1.
Damn FR and its asinine inability to copy or read HTML easily. It’s completely weird.
“Unchained Melody” by ...... Les Baxter .... not who comes to mind first, even if it was first.
I did get there, but by a slightly convoluted route:
I copied the url into a temp window, then removed the quotation marks and the FR part of the link.
I then pasted that altered link into the address bar, and that got me to the survey.
n 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North composed and recorded the score and then was asked to write a song based upon the movie’s theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote “Unchained Melody.”[10][11] Zaret refused the producer’s request to include the word “unchained” in his lyrics.[12]

When I click on those links I get a “Not Found” message.
That’s why one must pay attention to the artist. The most famous (I guess) by the Righteous Bros wasn’t until the ‘60s. And this, it turns out, was from a (bad) movie. Who knew?
Sorry - really, the original set of links works. “Reply” #1 to myself.
See post #1/reply #1 - those links work.
Stupid FR. Can’t do anything easily or logically. Setting up this stuff is alot of work and FR doesn’t make it easier.
For those who have not signed up, please consider tuning into the Tournament of Chart-Toppers for the 1950s and casting your votes!
Please PM me if you would like to be ON or OFF the ping list!
***************NOTE***************
LINKS IN THE #2 REPLY (LISTS ALL THE SONG PAIRS) DO NOT WORK! SEE THREAD O.P. AND #1 FOR WORKING LINKS!
********ALSO: PLEASE note the acts performing here. I have them all properly in the YouTube list. e.g., UNCHAINED MELODY is the original by LES BAXTER, not Righteous Bros of the '60s!
More: HARBOR LIGHTS by SAMMY KAYE; not Platters!
YOU BELONG TO ME by JO STAFFORD; not Duprees!
SH-BOOM by the CREW-CUTS (white guys); not Chords!
VOLARE by DOMENICO MODUGNO, not Dino or Bobby Darrin.
AIN'T THAT A SHAME by PAT BOONE (white guy), not Fats Domino
YOUNG LOVE by SONNY JAMES, not Tab Hunter (also on this tournament but dropped out)
No worries. As I said, I did get there, I just took an optional route. < BG >
A different performer of the same song is common. But two entirely different songs with the same title, well, less common.
Interesting.
Yup, but I suspect many people are going half-cocked and choosing the “well known” cover rather than the act specified. Between comments in the past and early results (though it’s totally possible all is accurately judged).
