"Over the last week or so, so-called smart guns have been everywhere in the mainstream media. In the Second Amendment community, there’s been a ton of talk about them as well. Especially since we all know it’s just a matter of time before lawmakers try to mandate smart guns as the only guns.
However, there are problems with these kinds of firearms. We all know it. I’ve talked about a few of them.
One of the big ones is reliability. The more whizzbangs you put in a device, the higher the likelihood of failure becomes.
...
"Last week, we lambasted reports of a new “smart gun” that Reuters raved about in a glowing “exclusive.” Reuters reporter Daniel Trotta wrote that the third-generation prototype fired “without issue” during a live-fire demonstration for investors and the media.
Now though, additional footage of the event has since surfaced that shows the LodeStar Works gun couldn’t manage to fire two rounds without an issue during one of the exercises.
Whoops. ..."

I’ve long said ‘smart guns’ are a horrible idea. Imagine a police officer getting shot and pinned down with no backup and someone like yourself comes along and decides to help and picks up the gun to fire but it won’t because your hand isn’t the officers hand. And it doesn’t have to be a cop, it could be anyone. What I’d like to see is ‘smart speech’ technology that blocks leftists from spouting their evil.
So let me get this straight. I am to pay more money for something that may fail because my hands are wet or because the battery fails or any of a number of other reasons and which could be turned off at any time by the government if it deems me unworthy of exercising my right to self defense?
How about No?
The most powerful word in the English language. NObody likes to hear NO. That is why Sales is such a difficult job.
Most people won’t ever have to worry about a smart gun failing.

Most people won’t be able to afford one. Which is the lawmaker’s point I suppose.
Just what everyone needs during a home invasion or carjacking, your smart gun throwing up a blue screen in the sight after firing round one.
“Sorry we encountered an error. Please squeeze the trigger twice to reboot.”
K.I.S.S.
I read a column once that about the Colt Peacemaker.
The author stated that he did not know if the Peacemaker was “The gun that won the west” or not, but it was “The gun that won Hollywood”. The reason being it was the one prop gun that they could count on to not jam and was almost elegant in appearance.
Why? It was fairly simple being based on a 35 year old design by Colt, using 20 year old technology developed by Smith & Wesson. Ergo, a simple machine using known technology that did not require batteries (which still have not been perfected)

If Alec Baldwin was holding it, I’d say it kind of worked.
I think the very first people who should be forced to use them would be the FBI, DOJ, ATF, IRS, TSA, DHS, et al.
“ If Alec Baldwin was holding it, I’d say it kind of worked.”

Yeh, to simple for his simple brain. It’s my guess that when Alec picked up the gun and gripped it he put his forefinger inside the trigger guard resting on the trigger. Then, he inadvertently squeezed the trigger and pulled the hammer back. When the producer told him to drop the hammer he released it and being the trigger was pulled back the hammer struck the cartridge hard enough to fire it. Thus, the director was shot dead. Obviously, there was a plethora of careless and stupid errors made leading up to the shooting.
This just means that cops, military, and criminals won’t have to use them, just you and me.
“Of course, gun folks know that there’s not really much of a market for these kinds of guns. We’ve heard about them for years. They’re always just around the corner, and yet absolutely no one seems the least bit interested in them.”
I think it was New Jersey that passed a law saying something like only ‘smart guns’ will be permitted, once the state deems the technology was mature enough.
Guess who IMMEDIATELY objected and demanded an exemption: Yep, the police.
‘smart gun’ =nice, clean, maintained, fed well, and in the hand of a competent shooter. No need for the hillary, or electronic lock, and where control and safety, are the mind and hand of the operator.

If banning ownership is a reach too far (at the moment), just render what you can't ban less and less useful.
The government possesses and uses various types of jammers in military and law enforcement. This turns a firearm into something they can turn off at will. Not to mention after an EMP and nuclear war, it might be kinda nice if your pistol still worked.
I prefer the more reliable KISS guns. (Keep It Simple, Stupid).
