Idiot smoker kills 12 people in Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:

A 5-year-old boy who escaped the fire that killed 12 people in a Fairmount apartment Wednesday told investigators the blaze started after he accidentally lit a Christmas tree on fire while playing with a lighter, according to police records obtained by The Inquirer.

I don’t blame the child for this.

I do blame the smoker who left their lighter within reach of the child.

You do realize that people who do not smoke have lighters of various types right?

Now the leftist goons are proposing “lighter control.” How the left can these totalitarians continually talk about the public like they were animals and yet much of the public is flocking to them is beyond me. It appears that some people are idiotic and born to be ruled .

This has probably happened since the beginning of the lighter, and even well before that, since the discovery of fire.

My kids always said I was doom and gloom about accidents and fires, but you have to scare kids and make it serious. They all survived intact, even though I basically let them run wild (“free children” of the ‘70s, 80’s) as long as they were polite and nice in company.

But even with the horrible stories I told them as examples, my son set a grass fire by accident (playing with a magnifying glass) and we were just lucky that my daughter ran to get me and we stomped and splashed it out.

So you just have to watch them and maybe scare them. Or inform them and watch them. Or just watch them.

Where does it say this lighter belonged to a smoker or was used for smoking cigarettes?

Real Christmas trees are dangerous. They dry out and the pine oil inside will burn like gasoline.

At age 5 Mom said “don’t play with matches” but if I started a fire I would be the one getting the spanking.

My house caught on fire when I was a child and burnt to the ground.

My father was building (he was a carpenter) the house and was welding something under the house. It caught on fire and burned down.

I dunno, this tale has little to do with this post except to point out that houses burn down for all kinds of reason.

We were living on a farm at the time, in a house my father purchased and was remodeling. My stepmother, my brother and I were returning home from a grocery trip. Our house was located at the bottom of a long dirt road off of the main road. We saw the fire engines at the top of the dirt road and my stepmother turned the car onto the dirt road to drive down to our house and asked the firefighters what was going on.

The firefighters told my stepmother to leave the road, there was an emergency upon.

“My house is down that road!” my stepmother exclaimed.

The firefighter moved aside and allowed us entrance.

“Go ahead,” the firefighter said. “Your house has burned down.”

It was all quite a shock and what a way to be notified. My stepmother cried and screamed the whole way down to the smoking house.

For statistical purposes, these will be reported as tobacco related deaths.

Exactly. The most reliable way to tell humans apart from baboons is that a human always carries a knife and a way to make fire.

And not blaming the 12 year old is why we have such idiots in this country these days. Everything is always everyone else’s fault. At 12 years old one should be old enough to know better anyways. It could have just as well have matches. In the old days people had to have a way to light lamps and fireplaces. Parent had to actually teach there kids not to play with fire.

Yep.

I do not smoke, never have smoked and have no desire to smoke but I always carry a lighter (with duct tape) a multi tool and a flashlight.

They have all come in handy more then once.

Maybe.

It’s not clear how the boy got out, and why some other members of his family could not.

Maybe the child locked the doors so they could not get out.

Perhaps the child's name is Henry. Or Damien.
