On this date in 1947, Japanese Imperial Army Lt. Gen. Yoshio Tachibana was hanged as a war criminal.
A career officer whose own star rose along with Japan’s empire, Tachibana (English Wikipedia entry | Japanese) was one of the youngest generals on the squad and had command of the garrison on Chichijima, a Pacific island that’s part of the same archipelago as Iwo Jima.

Herbert Walker Bush was almost captured on that island. His group of Avengers ran out of gas and had to ditch near the island. He went the other direction and was picked up. But many of the others were picked up and eventually executed by sword, some eaten.
Everything is on the internet.
It’s really just a “This Day in History” site with a different twist.
When you think about it, the macabre nature of it might attract teenagers and they might actually learn history.
Tachibana had beheaded his victim before the feast. Human flesh, he had boasted to his men, toughened him up, making him ‘strong for battle’.
He should be placed on a deserted island with crabs.
No tools no supplies. The crabs nipping at him all the time. He would be eaten alive in no time : )
The Japanese never received as much “credit” as they should have for WW2 atrocities IMHO.
