I'm not sure how to feel about this.
On the one hand, this is very weird and possibly disturbing.
I don't know if there is a mask mandate in this school district. If so, that is also rather disturbing. And I never knew how many weird people there were until the 'rona came along.
In some ways, wearing a cat costume, complete with mask, somehow doesn't seem that weird in comparison to other things.

These people are bona-fide insane. Being a staffer at Anime Central and a long-time attendee, Furries have an almost exclusively sexual component, though some do seriously identify as the animal they’ve dressed up as.
First world problems.
This is what happens when you infantilize adults and older teens. They do this sh!t.

It’s all fun and games until someone comes to school as a dog. Or a rat.

That’s a sign of a WEAK Principal and Assistant Principal.
They are allowing the students to dictate basic terms.
Maybe this is a school that wants to ‘be friends who don’t judge’ with students vs being an instructor who does their job.

They identify as cats. Pretty soon someone will demand they be provided with litter boxes.

This is a first world problem. Only a culture where the poorest are the most likely to be obese would have rebellious catgender teens.

Are they mocking the adults?
Given what the teachers unions, administrators, and school boards are doing with oppressors/oppressed and masks, they deserve to be mocked.

Somehow the original poster's user name seems particularly appropriate for this article.
If schools are going to make kids stay masked all day they might as well complete the rest of the costume.

How very refreshing! I can remember students rolling their cigs up in the sleeve of their T-shirt, the females wearing combat boots and ... well, some things ‘they did’ should remain in the past. I was a teacher when the hippies’ children sprawled onto the school scenes. How refreshing to have a cats movement. ... Great Broadway pay, BTW.
