They appear to have missed the fact that Taliban shadow governors were already in place, alongside their staff, to take over provincial functions.

The intelligence community and military leadership (along with politicians) over the past twenty years need to be called to account for their failures.
Everyone ignored the CIA’s greatest failure in my lifetime too. The CIA was caught, red handed, running a coup against a sitting president. The origins of Crossfire Hurricane was the laughably inept CIA European setups of minor Trump campaign volunteers. Their felonious trail was a mile wide. Of course, these boobs would now be lifers at Leavenworth if there was a real DOJ in the United States. These are the brainiacs going up against the Chinese, Russian and Islamic professionals in a very dangerous world.
I have no faith in any of our government or the corrupt offshoots it has created.
They don’t follow the Constitution, they don’t respect us or the country as founded.
They just stir the chit and work to collapse us.

Go back through many decades in almost every part of the world (The Philippines, Central and South America, Africa, the Middle-East, Southeast Asia, etc.). The US has a record of massive failure when it comes to nation-building. W talked about it during his run in 2000 and then went on to try it anyway.
Nations can only be built on blood, sweat, and tears. Pre-packaged nations can never stand on their own because the people haven’t invested in the effort.
The reason we have problems in the US is because we, like the Romans, have become content. We simply have not had to fight for our own survival since WWII, and that generation is almost gone.
Anybody remember the SNL skit in ‘79, set in the American embassy? It had Dan Ackroyd as a spaced out hitchhiker trying to trade his ABBA tapes to get out of Iran, Lorraine Newman as the secretary saying the people are chanting “Death to the Shah,” and John Belushi responding “Nah, they love the Shah!”
Failure? LOL, with a moose slime running that fen what we are witnessing is the ultimate success of rht antiAmerican CIA.
