One-in-five Americans say they have lost friendships over disagreements on the Chinese coronavirus, a daily YouGov survey updated Friday found.
The daily question surveyed 5,219 U.S. adults on August 5 and asked, “Have you lost any friendships because of differences in opinion related to the COVID-19 pandemic?”
Twenty percent of respondents said they have, 68 percent said they have not, and 11 percent indicated they remain unsure.
When broken down by party lines, nearly one-quarter of Democrats, 24 percent, said they have lost friendships, compared to 15 percent of Republicans.
The survey comes as politicians begin to alter their rhetoric toward unvaccinated Americans, the majority of whom, surveys suggest, do not plan to get the jab.
This week, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan (R) scolded unvaccinated Marylanders, accusing them of “willfully” putting others in danger. He also labeled them as a threat to freedoms in the state.
“I don’t care what misinformation or conspiracy theories that you have heard,” he said, wholly dismissing their concerns. “The plain and simple fact is that these vaccines are working.”
“Those of you who refuse to get vaccinated at this point are willfully and unnecessarily putting yourself and others at risk of hospitalization and death,” he continued, attempting to instill fear by warning that it “may be only a matter of time until you do get COVID-19.”

If the shot does not protect the person receiving it, then why should I get a shot that doesn't protect me to protect someone else?
How can a vaxxed person not protected by a vax that doesn't protect them be safer when around another vaxxed person whose vax is not protecting them either?
All we'd have then is a fully vaxxed population that is not protected from any virus but they'd all feel better, as if they did something proactive.
IIRC, it was around 2016 but maybe a little earlier. And certainly they doubled down on shunning in 2020.

As in all things, I just go about my business and live my life. I think that for the most part that’s what all Conservatives do. But it’s different on the other side. The Left is always purging people — purging them for being racist, or unvaccinated, or too religious, or for whatever reason. The Left is all about the segregation of the unclean so that society can be more pure and more perfect without those undesirables.

That number would have been much higher, except that friendships were already lost over Donald Trump. People are running out of people to exclude from their lives.
Getting vaxed MAY protect the one getting the vax, provide you have none of the numerous side effects, but it doesn’t protect anyone else.
Dems/Media are good at dividing people.

I haven’t really lost any friendships but I’ve lost respect for a lot of people. And that’s a fairly permanent thing when they are people that are over 30. What it is actually done is damaged friendships.
