Excellent site.
Went on to read a few other excellent articles.
Thank you for the link.
Too bad conservatives are busy providing for their families and being self sufficient... leaves little times for sit ins.
"11Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; 12Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.Lord, leads us not into the hard testing. for Thine is the Glory, not ours.
13Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; 14Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. 15For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: 16As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God" (1 Peter 2:11-18 AV).
"1I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; 1For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. 3For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; 4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth" (1 Timothy 1:1-4 AV).
Mario Savio nailed my feelings under the new regime. The machine is all encompassing today.
Let me begin by noting that the Bible does not contradict itself. Therefore, we must be able to contextually understand what the author, ultimately God, is telling us. I have a different verses, in times such as these, that I refer back to, which must have a correlation with the rest of scripture.
Romans 12:17-19 (New American Standard Bible 1995)
17 Never pay back evil for evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the sight of all men. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
Verse 18 is the key and it makes for allowances under some circumstances. Those circumstances are left for you to determine. So don't make your choices lightly.
point taken, but i’d never quote howard zinn (pure evil) in the same breath as perhaps the wisest son of adam ever to live the great and good man, Founder, Ben Franklin.
well brother.
i always have one question about the verses you (and many others frequently) site in support of a doctrine you apparently hold based on those verses in that translation.
if someone or some faction, who has the power to coerce obedience (that is essentially what authority means), orders you to do evil (let’s say aid and abet murder, for example), will you obey?
“Decide wrongly if you want but in all cases decide for yourself’’. Emil Kant.
Your proposition is so ill-conditioned that only a fool would attempt to answer it directly with a “yes” or “no.”
guess i’m a “fool” then, brother, because my answer (based on my understanding of scripture of course) is a flat no.
thanks for your input.
Did God permit Adolf Hitler and Josef Stalin to be the dictators of their countries?
You seem rather naive and not very discerning, my FRiend.
I believe your answer is quite proper, and is based on discernment of God’s counsel in the matter.
nonsense.
you can’t stop coercion by authority without equivalent power. for example: taxes will be collected without your consent or action. it happens no matter what you do. i think God would never hold you responsible for what the gov’t chooses to do with the taxes you pay.
your own actions are your responsibility, however. you can only control your individual actions. you would be a “fool” if you did something that would immediately result in a worse situation. that’s taking the greater of evils route, which is nonsensical. you always take the lesser of evil route if you have any power in the situation.
yes God permitted those despots, just as he permitted/permits lucifer to do what he did to Job and continue to do to all of us. do you have a problem with God allowing that?
that’s ok, you haven’t been the first one here on this site to call me naive and undiscerning. good thing ad hominem means nothing to me. if you’ve got an argument i haven’t already heard, i’m interested. otherwise, moving on.
It's not ad hominem. Apparently you don't know what that means, either. My comment was whether or not you understood the nature of your proposition, or the meaning of the passages you were questioning. Clearly you did not, and have not yet proven that you did.
So . . .
Thank you kindly sir! I wrote most of those myself, really proud of them.
The commies were smart to shift their focus away from the working class in favor of absolute degenerate filth.
